I'd agree, although other FF games still have some attributes which FF7 lacks e.g. not much different in the characters in FF7, unlike say 9 where they are all different.
Does anyone else agree the series has went downhill since the PSone games?

i would agree with you but ff10 is just sucha good game, it really sucks you in. the sphere grid takes a while of getting used to but they took a risk and it made ff10 a bit different. i only got 1 disk through ff7 but im going to start playing it again soon because i was real young when i started. they are definatly very good games.

I think it's gone downhill since FFX. That was the only PS2 FF I really enjoyed. FFX-2 was ok but in my opinion FFXII was just boring.

FF10 is superb and i do love it, but i'd maybe still put 7,8, and 9 ahead of it - although admittedly this could just be because i played them first and was 'used to them' kind of thing. I find a lot of the time peoples favourite FF is the one they played first.
I remember not liking 10 for a while, because in terms of plot it was so different.

that is ture most people enjoy the first ff they played and i guess the same happened to me, ff10 was the first ff that i really tried to get into and i put in alot of time with the game and just recently started it again because i cant remeber alot of things and it was such a good game. i could get into ff7 but i never really got into ff9 and i never played ff9.
FF7 was good for its time, as it did what other games had never done before with cinematics and so forth.
That said, thousands of games have had cinematics since then, and almost every one has better cinematics. What made it important from a historical perspective is pretty ho-hum now.
Not only that but the in game graphics and story have not held up as much as older final fantasies have (namely FF4, FF5 and FF6)as the rudimentary LEGO man looking graphics are enough to make your eyes bleed (it must have been inspiration for making the lego star wars games which are actually really fun)
Also the game is full of horrible bugs all over the place, most will crash you out of the game.
On a more positive note, melody-wise the soundtrack is excellent, though it is recorded with the cheapest MIDI crap sound set. But the melodies will stick in your head regardless, and if you list long enough you will imagine that really good musicians are playing these glorious melodies, but then you stop imagining and cringe at the actual sound.
Also Barret is pretty cool.

i think the story more than holds up to this day - for me it's still the best story in a FF game - truely epic. The cinematics are always going to age, but i still think it has some of the coolest FMV i've seen - basically any cutscene involving the Weapons or Sephiroth. Also, i've played through the game a few times and never came across any bugs.
Not the best one, one of the best ones though, mainly because of the storyline. The other miscelanious parts were ok, and combast was pretty much the same as the others

Well, FFXII is possibly the worst Final Fantasy to date IMO. FFX and Dirge of Cerberus were good though

FFXII is definitely the worst one for me, i was sooo disappointed in it. Im not eventhat botheredabout FFXIII, as i think FF is on a very steep downwards slope.
FFX is good as you say, but i dont know if i'd put it above any of the psONE games
