Okay, so I have a fat first gen PS2, with 2 USB ports. What can I do with those ports? Can I buy and use a USB thumb drive to save game data? That would be great if I could do that because I am running out of memory card space and the thumb drive can be used for when I get a PS3 in the future.

No, you can only use the USB ports for saving photos from certain games like GT4, or hooking up a specialized printer with a game.... like GT4. Also.... the Eye Toy goes through USB as well.

You could buy a USB thumb, but you can't directly save to it. You'd need some special disk that copies your data to the USB thumb. You could also use it to recharge your DS/PSP/cell/whatever if you have a USB recharge cable, or hookup a keyboard (maybe a mouse too). And of course, there's the Rez Trance Vibrator. The greatest invention known to man.

Any USB keyboard or mouse can be used with the Ps2 through those ports. Of course it goes without saying that the game you put in has to becompatible with a USB mouse/keyboard.

Update: I just picked up Half-Life today and it is USB keyboard & mouse compatable. I used a wireless mouse and a regular keyboard and it worked just great-- pretty cool feature for a port of a PC fps!
