i have been finding remarks about these two items everywhere. i dont know what they are! i understand that they are supposed to let you play ***. games on an American PS2, but could someone please just tell me what they are and how they work? thanx in advance.

I think they basically work the same: They allow your PS2 to read through the JPN marking on the disc and get on with the game material. I'm guessing it's just an algorythm that is stored in the PS2's RAM memory that "converts" the JPN codes into understandable NTSC codes that the PS2 then reads normally. It would explain why the games are not translated. Again, just a hypothesis that has the advantage of being possible and that pretty much fits the given info. DO NOT take this to the bank... at least until someone confirms this or gives you the correct answer! Cheers!

Cant say too much because it falls under modding,

Basicly you boot up with a rerular game and interupt the boot up process and replace the disc, the PS2 wont notice a thing and play the import/backup like normal
