When Igot Tales of the abyss my expectations with the game were vey low.I thought "a decent rpg to keep me busy for a while". Indeed, when i started itI wasn't very impressed, butwith abit of patience and... well, nothing to do on saturday afternoons, I've managed to amass 50 hrs+ andI can honestlysay it's one of the most pleasant surprises i've had on my ps2. Even though the game is far from being flawless,I'm now accostumed to its (many) quirks, andI really enjoy it.I don't even skip the intro... I'm that into it.

What about you? Have you been -pleasantly- surprised lately?

When I got Tales of the Abyss, my expectations were very high. I loved Tales of Symphonia, and expected this game to be one of the best games on the PS2. Sadly... it wasn't. But that isn't what this topic is about. A game that grew on me... I'd have to say Star Ocean 3. The first couple of hours just weren't that interesting. I think I actually quit the game for weeks/months after just a few hours of play. But then I picked it up again and went to 30 hours in just a few days. I've heard more people had the same experience. But I never really went into a game expecting nothing... I don't have all the money in the world and put some thought into the games I buy.

Who says you have to buy stuff? I havent had any slow warm ups like that. I have hated some games, taken them back, got them again and enjoyed them immensely. Killzone and naruto: uzumaki chronicles have been like that for me. Yeah cant really think of anything else. There been some others I thought would suck and was suprised by how fun/good they were but i think thats waay off topic.

Hey wait! PSU grew on me. It was easy, then it was tough, then i took it back because other games had come out, finally got around to picking it back up because i had liked the graphcis and stuff and then I really got into it. Extra Mode is TIGHT. Cant wait for ambitions. Hmm I think Destroy all humans could count for me also. Wasnt that impressed with the first one, just crushed the second one after stopping midway. Now im really inlove the series and cant wait for big willy and will cry when the one for the ps3 hits and i cant play it. Again if you cant a series of games I like mortal kombat games more and more just not for the reasons im suppose to hehehe.

i see your point but i never said i wasn't expecting anything from it or that i like throwing my money away. i had read the reviews therefore my expectations were low. and the reason why i got it was because i had never played a tales game before and i wanted to see what it was like.

FFXII, hated this game just for the fact of the different battle system. Then i got it for christmas, got addicted. Play it once in a blue moon, have around 50 Hrs on it, still in the beginning with it. So much to do in that game. :D

shadow of the collosus...i got fed up of this game shortly after defeating the first boss, the game felt very slow...boring...and just wasn't something i could get into...then a while later i decided (from boredom) to give it another go and i suddenly found this game very thrilling and fun to play...then it went on to be one of my favorite games on the ps2
