I bought Enter the Matrix, Okami, and Shadow of the Colossus w/o an idea of the gameplay. The first time I saw those games was in the store where I buy games. I really don't have an idea what those games look like. EtM turned out to be good, SotC was fine, and Okami was great...I mean one of the best games ever! :)

I had a rough idea about Shadow of the Colossus but let me tell you it looks alot better on a 57" with the High Def cables ;).

ICO was referred to me by a friend at Microplay, and I have yet to play it. Aqua Aqua (puzzle), Road Trip (super deformed racing), Magic Pengel (draw cartoonish 3D combattants) and RAD (giant remote controlled boxing robots with fully destructible buildings) were all bought because they looked crazy weird. I love weird games :). Jumping Flash on the old Playstation was bought for the massive PSX box and polygonal '3D technology'.

I forgot God of War. I bought just because the cover is cool and it turned-out to be a great game.

I actually do that with almost every game I play, or at least I try to. I'll always at least look at the review scores first, but seldom actually read much of anything about a game outside of maybe a review snippet or two on metacritic. It's awesome to discover everything through gameplay instead of through reviews or otherwise. The one game it enhanced greatly was Kingdom Hearts. I didn't know what characters or worlds were in the game at all, so each time a character made a cameo or a world appeared, it was a surprise. It made it much cooler to play.

Doesnt really happen with me. I read an extensive number of reviews on any game I buy before splashing out and take note of the negatives. To this end I have only been stung a minimal number of times over the past few years.

I bought Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) without having a clue about what it was about. It had been recommended to me by a guy who worked in Gamestation who I knew a couple of months before it came out, though I didn't actually know what the gameplay would involve (that and the cover looked interesting :P). I was in for a big suprise when I played it, one of the best adventure games I'd played in years.

SMT: Nocturne, I was no idea what I was buying. I only ask to the dude in the shop which RPG game was good as FF. After that I guess he have a good taste. ;)

Pretty much and RPG title by SQAURE-ENIX, WORKING DESIGNS, KONAMI, NIS or ATLUS I'll buy without hesitation or much info.

So far one of the biggest surprises was Konami's "Ys: The Ark of Napishtim" which I find quite enjoyable.

I hardly buy a game without checking it out first, like the ratings, trailers and opinions. I call to see if its there and then go buy it... but once i was out of the country and went to a game shop, I bought Obscure, Rise Of The Kasai, Black Hawk Down, & Cold Fear...I regret that move till now.
