I have been thinking of uprgrading to a "Next Gen" console such as the PS3 very soon. I still plan to but today when I was thinking about what my first game would be, I couldnt help but think I have not fully explored all of my options on the PS2.

There are a ton of great games out there and I have a line up of about 50 games I would like to add to my collection before I get the PS3. I am a huge Madden fan and I made one rule to myself. If Madden 09 is the last Madden on the PS2 then I will get my PS3 in August of 09 when Madden 2010 comes out. If Madden 09 doesn't come out on the PS2 then I will get my PS3 this August.

So I will leave it up to that. I mean, I just don't like to upgrade when I have not tapped out a current resource. Does anyonefeel similar to how I do?

I personally would upgrade to a PS3 with Backwards Compatibility, That way you can play your PS2 games in high Def, nonetheless use wireless controllers instead of wired dual shock 2 pads.

No.

I will upgrade when all of the companies get their heads out of their asses. Plus, I am damn near burned out on video games, so I am slowly getting rid of all of my games.

Yes completely agreed. I walked around Best Buy for an hour tonight, reading and re reading the boxes for all the different XBOX 360 bundles and the PS3 bundles. The more I looked, the more pissed off I got.

It's simply too expensive for what it is. I'm sorry, but charging 399 dollars for an XBOX that you have to drop another 200 dollars for HD DVD for is a @#$%ing slap in the face. Microsoft should be ashamed... if they even remember what that means.

The PS3 comes off as this apologetic late comer.. with all these crazy bundles and incentives.. but 500 dollars? At least they have the decency to include the bloody blue ray player... but my god 500 dollars? If it came bundled with FFXIII and someone to kiss your tears away for your lack of rent, then maybe.. but right now there isn't even any MUST HAVE's for this thing.

I say keep on PS2ing quite happily and save your pennies until TOSHIBA and Panasonic come out with $79 HD DVD and BLUE RAY players in early summer. Then the next gens won't have a leg to stand on and we can all pay what they are worth.

If your waiting until they stop making maddens for the ps2 then youll be playing your ps2 until the ps6 and xbox 1280 are out. haha just come exagerated humor, but yeah, the only console I justified myself to buy in next gen was thw wii. A)price B) I bought itthe day it was realeased in the US(waited 13 hours in line at wal mart) and at the time not only was TP out but SSBB and The next morio kart were schelduled for realease in november 07 hahaha yeah right that happened.

True, they will probably make Maddens for a very long time. I guess I just might cut it off at Madden 2010. lol

Yeah, for real man. I remember when I shelled out like $350 for my first DVD player. Note I said first because what seemed like a year or two later i got a better player that was half the size and only $100. The first one I gotwas a lot larger than the first X-Box. I will never make that mistake again.

I've had my PS3 for a few months now, and I can't put it down. I constantly play it all the time, but then again, alot of that time is spent on PS2 titles which I haven't finished yet.

I agree with you there, Chocobo riding Cloud. I've had mine since June or July this year I don't really remember, but yeah, I spend most of my time playing the PS3(even though I have the 360, Halo 3 and a few other games) and a lot or should I say most of that time is on PS2 games in high definition while the PS3 in the other room is doing Folding@HOME. Hot damn, it is sexy having to PS3s.

None of the next gen consoles are anything compared to the PS2. The Wii comes the closest with it's affordable price butit still doesn't have that many great games. Xbox 360 sucks if you hate shooters and the PS3 has barely any good exclusives. I would wait until 2009 before I would buy a PS3 or a 360, I have a Wii but I barely ever play it.

I did look into the latest consoles last month, but really there isn't enough there for the price of the machine and the games that makes me unhappy I "only" have a PS2. Keeping with the current machine I can often get a pair of games for the price of one next-gen game. I also haven't upgraded the TV in this room so HD wouldn't be a factor anyway.

It takes a few years for the latest consoles to really come into their own anyway.

PS3 controllers are horrible.... They really need to get rid of them and bring back the rumble controllers. Rumble controllers make the games much better.

No rumble for the PS3 controllers? I heard they were making a dual shock with rumble for the PS3 but I would be bummed if they didn't. You have to have rumble when your running back slams into 6 defensemen in Madden IMO. I guess you could do without it if you had too.....

They do have rumble PS3 controllers but they are only available in Japan. They should come with the PS3 system IMO but they dont. I would hate to spend an extra $60 bucks in future for a rumble controller. Lot of PS3 gamers are complaining about the lack of rumble. I think they will bring over rumble controller to PS3. I hope it would come in the package in the future.

No rumble controllers?

Ok, this was kind of a passing "oh well, what are you gonna do" kind of thing before this. So you have to shell out 500 dollars for bw compatablity, no must have games, and the controller doesn't have vibration?

There has to be a method behind this. Any marketing wizards who aren't cynical want to take a stab at it?

Is SONY taking a lesson from Microsoft: buy this REALLY basic thing and pay for every single tiny piece that will actually make it do stuff? I hope not.

Mind you, the most expensive thing i have ever bought for the PS2 is the PS2. I have popped into this world at a fantastically affordable time. I just got Mortal Kombat Deception for $5. I think I paid $10 for my eyetoy, and it came with eyetoy play. So there is a HUGE chasm between what I am used to paying and what people are willing to shell out for brand new stuff.

Still.. it just seems a little too flaky.. no rumble controllers? Is that supposed to be innovative? Maybe it is. I dunno

I have owned the PS3 for about nine months now. Play a lot of games on that system. Yet, I still go back to the PS2 games often. The biggest reason why I rushed out to buy the 60GB PS3 is for the BC. I still buy PS2 games cuz they are so cheap and FUN.

Over all, my best experiance was the PS2. My best memories. That was the console and games that REALLY caught my attention in gaming.

I am predicting Madden will go up to 2011 for the PS2. I can see three more releases for that franshise looking at all the units have been sold. The only problem I see will be more of a roster update and minor tweaks per release.
