God of War 2, quite possibly is, the best looking 'last-gen' game out there

Zelda TP shines through its art style, lighting and atmosphere but has some damn blurry textures. And while Ninja Gaiden looks awesome, there are some monsters and textures that look like half-melted plastic. I've been studying the videos, and for what it's going for, this is seriously gorgeous.

I know I'm saying the obvious, but everything from the draw distance, to the interior designs, to the enemies, to the lighting, friggen brilliant. It's on par (if not better than) in looks with such games such as F-Zero GX and Rogue Squadron III.

It is arguably the best looking "last-generation" game out there. Other games that need to be included in this debate are Resident Evil 4 for the Game Cube and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for the original Xbox. God of War 2 is hands down, in my opinion, the best looking PS2 game EVER to be released. I don't even think that can be debated. I just recently finished playing the demo for the game and I couldn't help to think to myself, "Are you F'ing serious?!?!? THIS is a PS2 game?!?!?! What?" Honestly, everything else on the system looks like crap compared to this game. God of War 2 looks better than a lot of the PS3 and Xbox 360 games that are out right now. I can't believe how they got the game to look SO good and run so smoothly on a 300mhz processor, 32 MB of RAM, and 4 MB of video RAM. It just doesn't make any sense to me how they could do that...My Treo has better specs than THAT for godsake! Is God of War 2 the best looking "last-gen" game out? Honestly, I don't think so. But I don't think there is any question that this game pushes the PS2 hardware to its absolute peak. I think it is the most impressive "last-gen" example of how limited hardware resources than be used with an extreme amount of efficiency to create "next-gen" level games. I'm almost waiting for smoke to come out of my PS2 while running this game...

I love GOW and i will buy it and agree that it is the best on ps2 (very close to RE4 and MGS3 and FFX) but for last gen on all systems.... then... gulp. Halo 2 is the best. I am sorryy..... i didn't mean for it to offend anybody on a ps2 board. I just thought the cutscenes in Halo 2 were probably some of the best last gen graphics to come out. please be open minded, as this was a great graphical showcase for last gen games.

I dunno if it makes everything else look like crap. Tekken 5 still looks brilliant as does Soul Calibur 3 with its environments. Part of the reason it looks beyond last-gen it because a lot of it is pre-rendered. There are a lot of invisible walls in the game, and beyond those walls are some fine artstyle and rendering. Kinda the same with bosses. It's very scripted at parts, so the devs don't have to worry about interractivity as much.

I wouldn't say the most impressive looking since Okami focused on art style more than the finer details.

God of War 2 looks extremely unimpressive to me, it looks exactly like the first--average, at best.

Perhaps it looks better if one is all "hyped-up" for the game, but I just don't see it.

I just had a little look at the demo on YouTube.. and it does look pretty amazing. I'd have to play it myself to really judge if it's better than RE4, which is by far one of the best looking last-gen games.

I'd say FF12 is the best looking "last gen" game for the ps2...God of War 2 is just...well...a big sequel to GoW. Graphics are the same as the last one.

If I am blind, then I will be thankful I'm not blinded by hype.

Don't be sorry, as it doesn't matter to me.  I'm simply comparing this one to the original as well other PS2 games.  The quality of the models and the level of detail appears indistinguishable to me between this and the first.  There really isn't anything remarkable with this game that hasn't been done or topped by other PS2 games.

I just don't get why people always have to compare ps2 games with Zelda games.. first off it's a completely different console.. who cares about Zelda?? Compare Zelda with the rest of the Gamecube games, but when you compare a PS2 game, compare with other PS2 games..

so yes.. God of War 2 is a very good looking game compared to other PS2 games...

Oh quit with your bullcrap.  I'd say that being plain blind is just as bad if not worse than being blinded by hype, which couldn't be any further from the truth.  Based on viewing the trailers and having played the demo, its immediately apparent that there is an increased amount of detail with the monsters, bosses, and the backgrounds...not to mention the size and scope appear to be much larger than in the first...all this while the framerate remains ever intact.  Just because you think the level of detail appears indistinguishable from the first doesn't make it any less impressive as GoW was already a very impressive title to begin with, both graphically and gameplay-wise.  In all honesty, I think it royally spanks anything produced on machines more powerful with the exception of the PS3 and X360.

final fantasy 10 looked pretty good, an i reckon it cn compete with those games even though its a couple years old.
