Just wondering because I haven't done much background checking into the newest growlanser game. I've heard it's going to be one of the last good games of the PS2 as far as rpg's go so I went ahead and reserved it. I was wondering does it have anything to do with previous installments in the series though. Also I just recently found the growlanser II and III boxset game...is it worth picking up if I got the cash? Please respond asap.

There is a review up somewhere, I got it from gamerankings.com. to make it short they werent too impressed and said the game oozes low production values, bad collision detection and poorly implemented 3D. I was wondering if they are biased against Growlanser in general but they gave Generations over %80 while Heritage got %60 or so.

The game looks like crap, but it does come w/ nice packaging to warrant the fifty dollar price tag. But, what are you spending the 50 bucks for?

We were all hoping it is something like Growlanser Generations, those were 2 good games. I dont know how much of a departure the new one is but hopefully it retains the general feel. I do know that the rings are out and there is a new board like thing for skills, no clue how that would work out though, doesnt seem too exciting either.

I think the rings were replaced with a skill-tree type system of character customization and I the site you are (probably) refering to is RPGfan.com -- they have a review of the import up, and your right -- they were not too impressed (admittedly, though, I haven't read the review; I just looked at the score), although I hear the US version has some fixes such as game speed.

If they fixed some balance issues then it wont be too shabby. I have been looking forward to a Growlanser game for a long time now, and I will probably be getting this one regardless of score, though a good game sure would be welcome!

I love the growlanser series, because of the semi realtime tactical combat. However I'v been hearing that the new growlanser is realtime and the other characters are computer controlled. Even with a really good AI and the ability to give "comands" to the other characters, I don't belive that the stratigical elements that made the game so great will remain intact. I hope I'm wrong tho and that the blow me away with the next instalment.

I had a look at some gameplay footage and it seems your hopes will be dashed. You can only control the main character, combat is much faster now. Nowhere did I see the ability to command your allies so I assume it is done via menues before the battles start .
