i disagree with you, GHII has better songs and even more difficult to play them, that a big challenge, i bought GH1 and it was very very , extremely easy even if you put it on expert, in 3 or 4 hours you can finish the game in all difficulties, i recommend GH2
IMO they are on the same level... whatever pointsGH gets for having better songs, GH2 has them for having more songs. Of course if we include the 360 version of GH2, I would be tempted ro say GH2 is better, because even if I don't care for most of the extra songs, it has The Trooper... and The Trooper it's an instant win.
But I guess it all could depend on which bands are your favorites.
You should have made this a poll. Is it too late to modify it and add one? I'm not really sure.
Anyways, I've only played GHII, so it's hard for me to say for sure. But I think they are similar enough that your decision should largely depend on which soundtrack you like the most. It's really a personal choice.
iv played both, GH1 has a much much better song list but GH2 has better features and multiplayer options. if your just going to do single player i would say get GH1

GH2 has the improved multiplayer as well. GH has a multiplayer mode where 2 players trade-off playing parts of songs. GH2 allows both players to play an entire song at the same time which was a huge difference.
