You can either buy the GH software(disc), or get it as a bundle (GH game + Guitar controller). The bundle is about 100$ CAN..so I'm not sure how much that is US or where ever you live. And as for custom songs, you need to follow some long process involving burning another copy of guitar hero, etc. If you want to do that though, check the GH2 forums. There are some threads about it there.
