(With Console-Style RPGs i mean traditional console RPGs like the Japanese RPGs)

I love games with a real challenge, you shouldn't have to avoid monsters and run from battles just to keep the game from being too easy. Old-school games like the early SNES RPGs where really great, back in those days you actually had to collect money to be able to buy things! Nowdays you don't evenneed tobuy stuff and if you would, you have more money than you could ever spend, so truly boring. I don't think I've everbought a potion in a Final Fantasy game since Final Fantasy V...

Is there anyone that knows of a game that actually offers a challenge (except for those old-school ones)?

Dragon quest VIII for sure, i'm currently playing through it (about 50 hours in) and it's great, it's harder than the common rpg's (imo atleast) and i've played HUNDREDS of rpgs, i mean i've got gmae over about 10-15 times, which isent a huge amount, but it's more than alot of rpgs, the main thing about this game that is diffrent is that armour + weapons is EXPENSIVE as you said, you actuley havet to EARN your money in this game, trust me, you wont go from village to village and buy every wep and armour, if you want it your havet to earn it!

Meh, Dragonquest is ok. i loved the game though but i can't play it more than 2 hours lol. The game gets boring quick but yea the game is long it has over 120 hours on mine ^^ try it.

And this year's best rpg is Persona 3. I highly recommend it! It requires grinding though.... but i highly recommend it more than dragon quest lol.

lol IDK if your looking for cheap games, get dragon quest.

I'd say Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga (1 and 2), and possibly Persona 3. They're all actual rpgs you have to put your thought and time into. I'd say Rogue Galaxy but you have to want to focus on item development and such to get the enjoyment you want out of it. No come to think of it with the skills having to be learned by finding items dropped randomly by monsters its actually pretty decent game, yeah the battling isn't much of a challenge but its innovative and the item development and such makes it worthwhile and with extensive sidequests you might want to give it a try also.

Oh and Disgaea or any of the NIS titles (excluding Grim Grimoire) definitely make you fight and fight and fight to earn anything decent you want...that is if you play without using the level loopholes and such.

if you like old school RGPs then you are gonna love Dragon Quest VIII

it took me 100 hours to beat and its the only RPG i know where money is always necesary and hard to get

also the cellshade graphics it has, with border detection and all makes it look like if it were a 2D game and bosses are usually hard

you shouldnt miss it
