Agree with Ghosts and Goblin, that series will kick your ass over and over.
If you perfer your diffculty closer to the current gen on the PS2, I hear DMC3 is ridiculously hard. I played the hell outta DMC1 so I didnt find it that bad, but that has the reputation of being one of the hardest PS2 games out there
I agree 100% about Ghosts and Gobilns. I love the challenge though. I'm on the edge of buying a PSP just for the new installment.
I honestly think the original Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior were very hard too, mainly because in those days you didn't have a strategy guide. Maybe also because I was in the 5th grade at the time too, lol.
The Ghosts N' Goblins games might be the hardest. I haven't played any of them in a long time but I haven't forgotten.
I'm playing DMC3 right now for the first time. The bosses are as hard as advertised.I haven't finished it yet but I'd put it in my top hardest games from the last generation along with:
-Ikaruga and Gradius V (Anyone can complete these two games because the games allow you to do so, but beating them isn't the point as much as it is getting a high score. If you approach these games with performance/high score in mind, the challenge is extraordinarily high. Anyone who can beat Ikaruga without using a continue is probably one of the best video game players in the world)
-F-Zero GX (I quit this game, not just because of difficulty but because I didn't like it enough to put in the time it would have required to get good enough to beat it. The story mode is a very high difficulty level)
-Super Monkey Ball 2 (I don't care what anyone says, the later stages of this game are ridiculous)
Ninja Gaiden (XBox) was also a good challenge but not on the same level as Ikaruga, F-Zero or Gradius V. I also never figured out how to beat the final boss of Viewtiful Joe; I got all the way through on both normal and hard but still haven't figured out how to kill him.
There's some other old-school games too, like the old quarter munchers like Robotron 2084 and Gauntlet. And I had a strange amount of difficulty beating the original Half-Life but that's probably because I sucked at the game and I also think I may have had the hard difficulty setting turned on and didn't know it.
yeah, I think dmc 3 is the hardest game I've everplayed in my gaming history (watch out for a three headed dog)
