personally, from my experience i think that the ps2 on hdtvs does not look good. I did not have component cables and i dont know if you do but my ps2 looked pretty bad on my 32 inch lcd tv. I would say get a ps3 but there is a big price difference between ps2 and ps3 so it's up to you.

Just make sure you have component cables, and it's all good.

I have played PS2 games on my PS3 which is hooked up to a 720p HDTV via a HDMI cableand some games look really good (especially MGS3's cutscenes). However, there are some games that look worse even when you are playing it onthe 4:3 mode.

No, I also have a 32 inch lcd hdtv (from Sceptre), and no matter what I have tried, the picture is constantly blotchy and blurred. I even went through the trouble of buying new component cables, and when I hooked them up, the picture was slightly better, but was still not as good as it would have been on a simple standard definition tv. Since you have waited this long to purchase a ps2, my advice is to wait until you've saved up enough money to buy a ps3 and play your ps2 games on it. Hooked up with an hdmi cable, the ps3 plays ps2 games with crystal clear resolution that looks a heck of a lot better than a ps2 with component cables. Believe you me, the ps3 is worth the money.

It looks great if you buy the Xploder HD Player for your PS2. The PS2 can output 720p/1080i. http://www.xploder.net/ps2/products/148/Xploder-HDTV-Player.htm

i bought a HDTV 1080i 21" flat panel tv (widescreen) from walmart (High end brand, Sharp, i think) and plugged in the regular cables and popped in GTA liberty city stories, the picture was ghosting burring. then poped in a DVD, not much of a problem but i guess anything involing super high speed made the image ghost/blurring. Couple days and games later i returned the TV and went back to my old TV i am planning on getting a new tv in the future

it depends on the games, some look really choppy, mostly the older ones...

but some look pretty good, like soul calibur 3 looks much better in hd then regular 480i

It really depends on the TV and the cables your using. I had a PS2 connected to my 32 inch LCD and it looked a lot better when I got the Sony component AV cable. Now I have my PS3 connected to the same set and it really makes a big differencenow (using the same component cable I used on the PS2). When watching DVD's I hook the HDMI up then.

If you can`t optimise the resolution you can`t have great expectations, but I personally enjoyed FFXII or Shadow of the Colossus better on HD

the question you ask isn't really a great question. you must be talking about the game because as long as you have the proper cables it will be able to display properly on your hdtv. however most ps2 games wern't built with hd in mind. but games like gow2,ultimate hulk, and gt4 all were built with it in mind and they look amazing on it.
