Is it easy to control various games or do you really need a DualShock?

you mean from the psx?  If you do they are exactly the same, the only differnec eis the color.  For psx games, the dpad is mostly used for control not the sticks, thankfully you just press the analog button and then you can use the sticks.  I dont know if thats what you meant but if it did, then there you go.

Yeah they did, don't you remember setting your contoller on the floor in MGS1 so Psycho Mantis could move it with his 'mind'.

At the time that they came out they were a great innovation, but after so many years of analog I don't think that I could go back. Using the D-pad for character movement has become uncomfortable and awkward.

Yeah, I mean the pre-Dual Stick controllers; with just a D-Pad.

You do realize that you should be ripping on the XBox's controller. That was THE biggest control scheme ripoff I've ever seen. They even copied the L3and R3 buttons! They gave it such boring names, too. Left Stick... Right stick... that's why the only Microsoft system I own (that I can think of off of the top of my head) is this computer.

OMG are u serious, there's only so much you can do with a controller layout. The SNES controller is basically thr same as the NES controller withe 4 extra buttons added. I'm sure the SNES controller inspired the PS one, but it did not rip it off. If anything everyone was ripping off Sony's design ala Gamecube, Xbox, 360 etc.

Hahaha, easy, kids. Yeah, the button layout for the PSOne's original gamepad was largely "inspired" by the SNES controller. Add two extra sholder buttons, make it look more ergonomic, and you've got a new controller. Even so, Sony did it right; the Dual Shock 2 had the best design of any of its competitors. To get back to your question, HUNK-007, you want a Dual Shock of some sort. Don't even bother with the original, especially if your only goal is to save money - You wouldn't be doing yourself any favors.
