The Playstation 2 should shut off automatically before it overheats.

It's normal for PS2 and other similar devices to get hot... Overheating means getting abnormally hot... I live in a tropical country and temperature can rise up to 36 C when summer season.... We don't have an air-conditioner so I only use it at night. The room temperature plays a big factor.

Mine never gets hot and I'm a pretty heavy user. Someone always is using the console, either me or my bro.

I have played pretty extensively on the PS2 at one time and it was never a concern to me that it was going to overheat. I actually know for a fact a friend of mine has left his on for days basically. Probably not something I would recommend but it still works fine after that. So I don't think overheating is a big issue.

At 60 degrees you run the risk of permanent damage, a PS2 will not reach this temperature because it shuts itself down automaticly.

This means you can keep it running 24/7 without risk. At most it may jam or have a sloppyer framerate till its cooled down again.

Yuo're right, room temperature plays a big factor expecially for the slim PS2 coz it's fan is not enough

Mine's a slim ps2, and it gets quite hot after abt 2hrs. I got an internal fan, so i guess there is a good way to prevent the ps2 frm overheating. i can play up to 6 hrs without stopping.

hahah nice one, i was planning to say the same thing

seriously, sometimes i play like 24/7 and nothing happens, so i think there is no need to worry, unless you had the overheating problematic ps2s and didnt change your adapter yet ( its nothing new, so dont worry if your ps2 is new )

I would assume that the ps2 slim overheats after 9 hours of non-stop playing. You can reduce the heat by putting it up vertically and putting an external fan beside it.
