How many of you Playstation 2 owners are planning to buy a PS3 in the future?

Sony has banked its strategy on transitioning the weight of its 100 million + PS2 userbase to the PS3.

So my question to all of you PS2 owners is: are you planning to upgrade to the PS3 in the future? Or are you satisfied with the Playstation 2? Or are you planning to upgrade to a different next-generation console?

I think it is wrong for console makers to FOCUS on online crap so much. If you can fit online stuff on a console great but that crap is secondary. I dont need no stupid hard drive or built in ethernet. All those FPS games with zero offline multiplayer features.

I had a PS2 but sold it about....a year and a half ago. Recently I bought the 60 gig ps3. A lot of the newer games are like the other 1st gens that the original playstations had. I'm honestly making a ps2 collection and ps1 (just the final fantasies) along with the ps3 titles, which i have 7 of.

It was worth the upgrade though :P

Yeah, I owned a PS3 and sold it. I really mostly played PS2 games on it anyway. Now I have a PS2 on the small TV upstairs, for when people are using the downstairs TV (or entire floor) and a Wii and 360 on the bigger HDTV with surround.

I own both the PS2 and 3.

I mean the logical step is NOT to be stuck at the last-gen consoles, and so far the the 360 has no games of my interest and the Wii, well that's last gen disguised as the actual gen.

The screenshots of the F1 game look absolutely amazing. I mean they look like photos of an actual race!

I am not planning on upgrading however for the usual litany of reasons. Plus, some of you guys made some good points I hadn't really solidified until I read your posts above:

On those splashy stylish PS3 tv ads, every single clip of every game is lagged. Every one. I'm talking on tv. You'd think they would at least try to edit that out or something..

It does look kind of well.. knob end. You guys were right, it looks like an auto part. Really helps people with non gamer significant others.. "But Hon.. it'll look great in the living room next to the... muffler?".

I'm not quite as concerned with backwards compatability as I was before. I bought my PS2 early this year (like May) so it will be fine. I am concerned with how much of the astronomical price is going towards that emulation software however. I already gave them $130 to play PS2 games.. do I have to pay them again?

This all sounds like a massive PS3 bash- I really don't mean it that way. It's just that I love the PS2. I haven't had this much fun with a console since my SNES. It's going to take a lot to get me to look to something else.

I'm curious as to what titles specifically you think lag, because most of the commercials show off exclusives, and those usually don't have slow-down.

I'll probably buy one in a couple of years when Sony has sorted themselves out. Right now the PS3 and 360 have no games of my interest and the Wii has a few (not many though). I have a PS2 and a Wii so I'm happy with them for now.
