Luckily, I've only had a single one, for about 3 years now? Still no signs of problems or anything, so I'm happy.
Proud to say 1 since launch. Never had a single problem with it but I am getting a PS3 for christmas, so in a few days I won't play it much anymore.
I've had 2 , My original fat one, had 2 problems, First, it wouldn't read discs, laser problems(yes we all know the old story there), and second, no power was coming into it. Managed to get both fixed, now I have a silver fat one, that I've had for about 3-4 years, still working perfectly fine, no prob's so far, a definite improvment over the original.

I have had one for about a year now. Slim line is fine....no problems. For that matter, my PS1 is still going too!
I think most PS2 systems (regardless of fat or slim) will last for a very long time, as long as they are taken care of properly. Good ventilation, light handling, etc. And remember, overheating means that a system was damaged from a heating proble. It is normal for a video game system to produce heat after extended hours of usage. They need to be kept well ventilated. If you have an entertainment center with doors on it, keep the doors open so that your console can breathe. If cool air can continue to flow through it, people won't have as many overheating problems.
And turn your systems off at night.
One (original). Got it about four years ago. I'm afraid it's on it's death bed though. It keeps making this really weird ticking and scratching noise. Makes me very sad...
I'm on my third and am convinced that DVDs kill PS2s, at least in my case.

I'd definitely have to agree with that. I didn't hear the weird ticking noise until we started playing DVDs on it.
