I am getting a PS2...what are your game recommendations?

Well I only had a gamecube last gen and it was good.  But I have always wanted a ps2.  I feel that now is the best time to go wild and get a bunch of classics for cheap.  Please guide me with your wisdom o playstation 2 players.

For your consideration: I am interested in getting into metal gear solid series.  Is substinence the one I should get?  I am already going to get shadow of the colossus and god of war 1 and 2.  Is final fantasy really that good (i am a paper mario fan)? What GTA do you recommend?  What is the deal with ICO? I think I am going to wait and get guitar hero on the wii.  Thanks.

Ehhhh, don't believe him. God Of War is a masterpiece of amusing, nonsense violence for the whole family. Play it on hard difficulty to enjoy it properly, and then in God Mode. Is like heavy metal made graphic.

Ok i went through the entire list of ps2 games as presented by gamespot and I picked out the ones that were atleast fun to play and made a list.  I put it in a blog so i can refer to it whenever someone asks this so just follow this link.

To the Rpg list I would also recomend Shadow Hearts 1 and 2. Especialy 2, but it is better if you played 1 before. And honestly, you can forget about 3. I also really liked the xenosaga trilogy.

As for action/adveture game, God of War is fun but I didn't think it was as good as most people do. I think you really shouldn't miss DMC 1 and 3. Oh, and even if you don't like platformers Psychonauts is worth just for the worlds and characters.

And Resident Evil: Code Veronica, it may not be the prettiest one (not that I think it mathers, but some people do) btu for me it's the second best in the series; being Remake the first on, but you probably already have that.

Anyone of the Socom series... God of War...Metal Gear series... Call of Duties... Those are some good games... There are hundreds more though...

Anyways... To the TC, yes Okami is worth it's price in gold.  It's similar Zelda but done in it's own style.

Here's my suggestions...

Okami, Devil May Cry 5th Anniversary Collection, GoW 1&2, Shadow of the Colussus, Tales of Legendia, Tales of the Abyss, Star Ocean, Radiata Stories, Valkyrie Profile 2, Rogue Galaxy, Final Fantasy X, X-2 & XII, Xenosaga I,II & III, Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3(subsistence), Tekken5, Soul Calibur 3 and Street Fighter Alpha Anthology.

To be honest, i'd get a PS3... I know its not cheap, but you are getting a lot more and you will be able to play the PS2 games + PS3 games...

Anyway, on topic:

God of War, ALL THE GTAs!!!!, Gran Turismo 4(if you like racing simulators), Bully, Final Fantasy X and XII, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3.

Those are probably the best games i can remember right now, i mean i can remember a lot more but those are the biggest titles.

I dont know what the hell you mean by japanese.  Thats where the majority of games ARE MADE.   None of the games i listed are imports or anything I baught them all in america and they all have english text/voices. 

So what does japanese games mean ?
