So far, I've tried:

KH Series
Star Ocean
Rogue Galaxy
Breath of Fire: DQ

I know that list is halfway to microscopic, but that's pretty much the reason I'm here typing right now. I'd like some reccomendations for the PS2. I'm a sucker for great storylines and love connections. I love my RPGs LENGHTY, a satisfying amount of content, some sidequests and some feeling of customization are OK, but its quite alright without them.

I know that there have been MANY underrated RPGs out there for the PS2, so lets get started! Thanks heaps

Keyword being "real time". Although FFX is an awesome turn based RPG (one of the few I could play from start to end without wanting to blow my brains out).

Yes, i know what your saying, however the new combat system gives FFXII more real time system. It has changed... Give it a try or check out the video gameplay footage.

Valkyrie Profile 2. Not 100% real time, but it feels VERY action based when you are in battle. And in my opinion, it is one of the most over looked and good RPG's out there right now.

You've played a few good ones there already! But you're right that there's a lot of good PS2 action-RPGs left. The next best quality choices similar to what you've played would be Tales of Legendia, Tales of the Abyss, Radiata Stories, Dark Cloud 2, and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner. As noted, Final Fantasy XII can also be set up just about as real-time as you want it to be. Some others to consider are Valkyrie Profile 2, Shining Force NEO (and perhaps the upcoming EXA sequel), and some older/rarer titles like Ys: Ark of Napishtim, Summoner 2, and even Dual Hearts.

I believe the .hack series uses real-time action combat as well, though I've never tried any of those. Grandia II and Grandia III are not completely real-time, but definitely consider them -- they use an innovative phased time system, but it's very active, a lot more dynamic than turn-based, and a heck of a lot of fun. Also take a look at Steambot Chronicles, which is largely real-time, but not as traditional fantasy, and combat isn't its strong suit. It's kind of an oddball overlooked gem with a lot of open-ended variety and character-based role-playing freedom, if you're into that kind of thing. Read about it first though, it's not for everyone.

There are other games considered as action-RPGs such as the Champions of Norrath, Baldurs Gate, and X-Men Legends games. Those can be fun, but they are pretty much full-on hack-and-slash games, far more action than RPG, and likely don't have the storylines or depth of content you're looking for.

Thank you all very much.  This was the exact kind of feedback I was searching for.  Looks like I'll have a lot of bargain bin searching to do in order to find these game. Haha
