is it still ok to buy a PS2 now even they say it's dead?

im a pc gamer. and all of a sudden PS2 is so cheap. i want to buy one. but they say it's already dead with all the nextgen consoles. they also say that AAA titles will not come out for the system because developers all look at the new consoles.

please answer me as a gamer in general. not a as a fanboy of some console... thanks!

In my opinion if have seen quite a few games that you want for the PS2 then go for it in my opinion, the PS2 will eventually die at some point but the PS3 launch wasn't 'great' because of the price and release games so I think the PS2 could still have a little fight in it for some while longer. But I think if youare waiting forsome AAAtitles then I would save up for a PS3/360 as a lot of companies are trying to produce next-gen games for the best consoles.

well if u didn't have it at all , missed all it's games and not planing to get a back PS3 , then this is a CHANCE u never should miss!

1st it's cheap , 2nd it's great old games (which still great) are very cheap too, 3rd it has games that should be missed and a must 4th it will be supported for about 3 years

the bad things are: 1st maybe you'll not be able to find all the great games , 2nd no more online except for maybe 3-4 games

3rd no much new games but there's still some good games to come out on it....

Reasons to get a PS2

1:-PS2 is damn cheap.

2:-PS3 is damn expensive.

3:-All the back catalogue.

4:-You can wait and watch who wins the console wars and then pick the one that wins.

5:-People still buy old consoles like dreamcast, Genesis, snes because of all the great games that came out for them and also becuase of the collector value. These games have a nostalgia feeling towards them. Some years down the line you will have the same feeling for the PS2 and you might want to play those great games again.

6:-PS2 is not quite dead, there are still games coming out for it and will for probably a few more years (though they may not be AAA games)

7:-You can buy a PS3/360/Wii a few years down the line when all the problems in the consoles like the red ring of death and other stuff are sorted out. So in that way you wont have problems with your console.

8:-A few years down the line the consoles are definitely going to get cheaper and better.

9:-All the old and great games have gone budget so you can get them cheaper

10:-There are some games that make PS2 a must-buy such as god of war series, Metal gear sold series, Final fantasy etc. You will only find the next version of these games on the latest consoles but that doesn't mean you should not play the ps2 verson.

11:-Maybe Xbox live will become free/ PS3 will improve its Live features.

12:-A new version of Wii comes out with bigger storage.

13:-A new version of PS2 is coming out that has the power adapter inside the console making it even slimmer.

14:-Do you need any more reasons to buy a PS2 now?

PS2 = Greatest Console of All Time - period.

The PS3 is awesome too, but you cant miss out on PS2.

I wouldn't say the PS2 is dead.... Although, I will admit that I see nothing of interest on new releases besides Yakuza 2, at least for me... but I got so many games for it that it really doesn't matter. As for other new released games.... not that interested on any of them, either.Only one that has my interest, right now isMGS4, and not sure ifit's worth the 500+ dollar price tag to play it, as of yet...

As for developers.... I don't think they are even sure which system to support.... Seems that, so far, they are just porting their games to all of them that that can...

The biggest thing about a PS2 now is that your local video store will no longer have alot of the older games. If you get a PS2 your going to have to BUY all the other games, without trying them. Thats a pretty big commitment. If you have no problem buying games instead of renting them then go for it. If not then your probably better off not getting one. Ebay is pretty freaking expensive now-a-days. Just for shipping people charge 7+ dollars. Most good games go from anywhere between 10-20$ or alot higher. Depends on how rare they actually are. The sellers will try to tell you that they are all rare lol.

So I think all you newcomers missed the boat if you get a ps2 now. If you have a ton of money though you can try to play catch up.

Don't worry about it. Get a ps2 and grab 10 Greatest Hits games. Take your pick...lots of awesomeness there. This will make you more than happy. No need to hunt done rarities for crazy loot when amazing titles can be gotten for under $20. Just buy a ps2...you'll love it.

See? Even PC gamers can agree that the Playstation 2 is a worthy addition to any household.

I also was a gamer who was one of the last to jump on the PS2 bandwagon, despite having a PS1 for years.

I say don't buy a PS2 because soon the PS2 games will be discontinued and all the sequels to the games you liked will be coming out on the PS3. Your best bet is t get a PS3 or 360.Dawq902

Not true. There is a new, redisigned Ps2 coming out on Jan 1, 2008. From what I've heard, at lest. Doesn't mean that it won't discontinued, though.
