Depends. If you have a problem with buying used games then yeah I'll tell you your too late. But if you dont mine that there's a huge collection of games to play. Also Jaffe is making a Twisted Metal for the PS2 if that takes off your probally see more developers going back to the PS2
Edit:
Soryy didnt read all of your question.
As for good shooters on the PS2 I'll say none. Hated them all, keep in mind I only played 3 on the PS2 Killzone, Half Life and Red Faction.I would Recomend Xbox or PC if shooting stuff is your fancy. Some may call Ratchet and Clank a shooter but I would still call that a action adventure platformer.Never played the PS2 online so cant help you there.
Hey man i'm here to tell you it's never too late to get one if you dont like used games then dont bother because you'll never get anything that way depending on the price since they all gone up, so you should get one and buy Final Fnatasy XII (Great game) GET IT!!!!
I recently bought a new PS2 the new slim silver edition the only game i bought it for was Guitar Hero 2. Biggest waste of money i've wasted yet :S. Back in 2001 I had a brand new Playstation 2, a Playstation 1, a Nintendo 64 and a good selection of games. My backstabbing older friend who used to come to my house and play video games with me ended up robbing me with his friend while I was at my cousins place. His name was Victor! Anyways, I recently bought this brand new playstation 2 For $139.99 Canadian and somewhat regret it cause the only thing I use it for is PS1 RPGs and PS2's Guitar Hero. Really the only game I want to play other then GH2 is God Of War 2.
Oh yeah and the PLAYSTATION 2'S SLOWDOWN for some games is really anoying.
I got huge slowdown when I played Shadow of the Colosus
i'd say wait a year and get a PS3 when the price goes down.
I dropped my PC down the stairs when I was moving it the other day was abit of a dint in the metal but it is completely fine.
I seen a Playstation 2 dropped from 3-4 feet and it never worked again. (Xbox and Gamecubes are alot more durable)
Even tho I have all the new systems PS3, X360, Wii, I STILL like to play Old games on all my old systems. Nes Snes Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, N64, XBox PS2, Gamecube etc etc etc....
ANyways I NEver get sick of playing older games on the real systems in addition to all the new games>>>>>
I have like 3 PS2's also, 1 original STILL working and Two of the Slim PS2's (Black and Platinum) and I actually think I'll also buy the new Ceramic WHite Slim PS2 coming out very soon....
SOOo Many Games you will NOT be Sorry!!!
The PS2 is still getting support from developers as of now (this could last another year or so). But if you have the resources to get a PS3 then you can still play the PS1 and PS2 games on the PS3. As for shooter games there is the Socom series (soom better than others), call of duty series, and the medal of honor games.
No the ps2 outsells the ps3 every month so no it is definitly not too late. The devs will continue to support it until the demand dies down which i think will come sometime next year or in 2009
ive recently taken a load of interest into buying a ps2. is it too late? and how long do you think they will keep making new games for it? im really wanting to buy one now. and also, whats the most played online game for ps2. im looking for a shooter, but just want to kno wat the most played game is. it's not too late to get a PS2 but in my opinion, you should just wait till you have enough money to get a PS3 becuase theres not going to be that many more games coming out for the PS2 if any. Besides with a PS3, you can still play your PS2 games but you can alsoget the lastest games for the PS3. So I think you'll be doing yourself a big favor. It costs more but it's more worth the money too.
