The slim has online built right into it and it's MUCH smaller then you would think. It's also faster because of the more RAM so the load times are take less time.

You can find them used at EBgames/GameStop for only $99 and new for only $129, Here are the links...

The Slim is better. More quiet than the fat one.

since when was the fat one loud? personally i prefer the fatty if you havnt noticed, Ive had mine for 5 years with no problems and i hear ppl have harware issues all the time with the slims (no facts to prove this, just collective data from users i guess). i also just prefer the disc tray on the fat ps2, i dont dig the pop-up-tray whatsoever

Yes. The original one gets a lot of dust, the dust gets in the fan and on the lazer, it was a pain in the @ss to clean and my adventully would not play anything after awhile cause I didn't clean it so when the slime version came out I traded my old one to get slime and dust does not get on the lazer and easy to clean and the only down part about it is when you play it after like five to six hours the fan turns on and it is pretty loud but that is the only thing that gets to me and I had my PS2 Slime for about two years now and it still works great and I only clean it about every two mounths.

If you fat one isn't having any problems then there is no need to replace it. I only went out and bought a Slim PS2 when my Fat one literally died on me and wouldn't turn on anymore. You can only open up your fat PS2 to fix the disc read errors and clean the lens so many times before it eventually dies on you.

Sony finally convinced me to buy one with the slim version and the cheap price for a used one a couple years ago. I can't play Anime/Animated DVDs on it though but my brothers fat one does. Either way, they are both the same, one is just smaller. I'd prefer the big one though since I like to put my systems on their side.

I just got a slim silver PS2, my little bro has a fatty. (no pun intended LOL)

But ive noticed the smaller PS2 is A LOT faster. Not to mention the PS1 Driver version is 2.00 compared to the other wich is 1.10, why is this good? Better performance and texture rendering.

If i had the choice between a new fatty and a new slim i would still pick the slim, it just looks better, performs better and just feels more solid and better quality overall.

If you already have a PS2 fatty i dont think the 129 is worth the upgrade. But if i didnt then i would definitly get the slim vs fatty.

I'd say, unless you had a ton of useless money floating around your house, to just stick with the old fat PS2, and upgrade to the slim if your current one breaks eventually.

Don't get me wrong, my silver slim PS2 is made of pure win, but there's no point in dropping $100+ for the same thing when the only benefit is faster loading times. $100 could get you some great games, seeing as how they're all cheap now.

If you don't have a PS2, get the slim, but if you already have a PS2, why waste your money on a system you already have? If you're that spoiled and rich you might as well get a PS3.

Well, I'm definitely not rich or spoiled, so I guess I'll stick with the fatty. I might get a skin to make it prettier though. lol.

The slim is cheap, so if you need a new PS2, go for it. I had a working original model, and I chose to upgrade since the price was right. I got a year's worth of rental games out of it, and a new, and sleeker console. Slimlines are pretty much problem free, so you'll never have to worry about the console not being able to read your disks, which is probably the biggest plus to it if you want to upgrade from the old model. Yeah, get the slimline. It isn't much anyway.

I have had 2 fat ps2s that go out quickly. My slim line works way better than the fat one. You can get it for a 100 on sale a walmart.
