If I'm looking to get one of these which do you recommend? Do I need to play the first in order to understand the second? Both games are fairly cheap and I could pick up both for the price of one brand new game.
Also, is the battle system real time or turn based?
Just the first. The camera may be problematic but the first game has some real tough challenges (secret bosses) and is more memorable. I can't say the same for the second one. The controls are much better but the game itself is a dissapointment. The story is very uninteresting and the beginning is a few hours of pain and torture (Roxas is played by Jesse McCartney BTW). Very easy as well, you won't be challenged even on Proud (hard) Mode. You also fight some of the bosses from the first game so there is a big sense of deja vu. The stages are very small too, and are far from interesting (the only highlight is the Pridelands). Think of it this way. KH1= Cinderella, a timeless classic KH2= the crappy straight to video sequels There may be a chance of KH2: Final Mix coming to America. That one is an enhanced version of part 2 (they say it will also be harder with more scenes, stages, and weapons) and also includes a 3D version of the Gameboy Advance game Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. The games are primarily action adventure with very light customization of characters and growth.
If you like strategic combat, go with the 1st one. If you like lots of action, the second one is right for you.
1st one is about 30 if you try and find all the secrets, but it will be about 70-80 to try and level up enough to kill Sephiroth.
2nd one is about 50 hours if you try and find all the secrets, but it's way easier to level up in the second pne so I reckon it would only be 60 hours to level up enough to kill Sephiroth.
The first kingdom hearts talks more what happen you should get the first one first follow the second if you wanted too, the second is a bit easier and more action to it then the first one.
Play KH first so you understand the storyline and get the 'drift' of the game and it's also a great game!
A lot of people say that KHII is a disappointment which I don't think is true. Problems are fixed, elements are added and yes, it may be easier, but there is a lot more action and depth in it.
Play both games - you'll understand the story and also have lots of hours of gameplay of pure charm and fun :)
i agree with everyone else. dont make the mistake of playing the second one first, because you will not understand anything.
the first one is much harder to beat (seph, and the secret bosses) where as the second you have more range of movement, and its easier to escape from attacks.
If you want to understand the story, you must play KH1 first. I think KH1 was a better game simply because it was so groundbreaking but I would definitely recommend getting both games.
definetly the first kindgdom hearts. in the first one, the storys cool, the game play is varied and enjoyable, and the voice acting is decent. the second one.. well, the story is uninteresting, the voice acting ( just listen to anything on the pirates island) is terrible, and every step of the game you get locked in a corridor and have to defeat all the enemies it throws at you over and over again. that and ff12 made me realise that square enix have lost what square had when they were on their own. and its a sad thing.
