To be more specific, they are the analog buttons. You can push both sticks inward and you'll hear a click... They're buttons as well as analogs for movement.
Well, generally they refer to the button feature when mentioning L3 or R3, at least that's how I see it. You'd be surprised at how many people don't know they're buttons lol.
ok the analog stick have buttons the first game i play that use that button is DMC1 it is use to switch weapon fast without going to the menu window another is Valkyrie Profile 2:Silmeria it is use to charge AP!!!!
i had a friend who saw them on the God of War moves list and tought the game was making fun of the buttons... man... he got almost to the end without using the rage of the gods... that was hilarious...
