MGS2 was awesome. I played it through 7 times and it never got old.
In hindsight, MGS2 actually does surpass MGS3. I never was highly annoyed by Raiden but it did bug me that you played as Snake for only an hour total. Raiden running around naked was a bit awkward.

I agree, I felt MGS2 was a much better game, and it it was much more revolutionary for its time.
thanks guys, usually i dont post but i just had to get that off my chest. its a masterpiece but raiden did get kind of annoying, still the gameplay rocked and no bosses just randomly exploded while screaming their names lol.
mgs2 is basically the same, but none of the jungle stuff, your atop of a tower/building/"oil clean-up plant"(or whatever those are called) and you sneak around. its great. oh and you dont play as sanke, but when you do see him later, it just makes him seem more awesome
MGS2 was the best of the series, Raiden was awseome, it was cool having to fight along side snake, and the storyline was the most postmodern and beutiful story on the PS2.
 3 dumbed everything down, and the graphics weren't as smooth as 2s, but it was still good.
MGS2 was more movie than game. MGS 1 and 3 were kinda like than too, but for my money mgs2 was too short to be mostly movie clips that me sitting with the controller held limply in my hand, watching a conspiracy theory unfold that was so contrived it bordered on absurdist. In my opinion, the MGS series still takes itself too seriously. MGS 3 was okay, but I doubt I'll hurry to pick up the next one.
I love MGS2, but I still prefer 3. There was too much backtracking in 2, and the areas weren't as diverse. MGS3 on the other hand blew my mind with the jungle areas and the animals. That game is easily the best thing ever to come out on the PS2, with MGS2 and Silent Hill 2 close behind!
MGS2 is such a great game I must have beat that game a whole bunch of times, same with MGS3 as well. Both are tight but you don't have CQC moves anymore, Raiden is much cooler than you think
