??? Lui Kang is like the main character of MK!!.....And Kung Lao can freaking chuck his hat at people and cut them..... Anyways you also get to use Scorpion and Sub-zero after you go through the game with either character.When you use sub-zero or scorp though the cutscenes still use lui kang and kung lao lol. As far as the game its freaking awesome. I love the fight mechanics. Its just a beat-em up but you also get to use fatalities and they are simple 4 button combo's. It also has a versus mode but its arcadey, you fight inside a circular ring and there are like crates and stuff and if you break crates you get power ups.
I could have swore gamespot said that armageddon's konquest mode was going to use the Shaolin Monk engine but no luck there. I'd like for the environements to be more 3d but man I hope they make another game using the shaolin monk engine.
darn, only subzero and scorpion? and i have to beat the game inorder to play them, so i have to play the game AGAIN? i wish they would just let you choose which characters you want to be.

Well SM is totally different than any other MK game so im sure all their time went into just developing the engine and stuff, I mean they didnt even take time to make alternate custscenes lol. Now that they have the engine made it will be super easy for them to add more characters, do more cutscenes, and improve the game all over the place.
If you play through as Lui Kang I think you get scorpion and if you play through as Kung Lao I think you get Suz-zore so technically you would have to play 3 times to get everyone lol. In the versus mode you also have a bunch of other characters. The game and graphics are awesome though. Playing through repeatedly will be fun.
There are ways to get the scorpion and subzero without finishing the game...but wheres the fun...i thought its a pretty fun game....altough i got pissed at the final fight...3 bosses one after the other
Uhh it probably has something to do with thier miserable sales figures and MK being the joke of the fighting genre. Maybe they are trying to change and turn into something that is better or more fun to play. I've never owned an MK game because of the fight mechanics.

well i wouldn't call a fatality a joke. but its just so lame, i don't like all these characters acting stupid and unrealistic. i want a mortal kombat game to come out that looks as good as beowulf, then i'll be a fan again.
You need to give examples of them acting stupid and unrealistic.... They have been chucking spears at each, flying through the air doing bicycle kicks, freezing each other, and ripping out hearts since day 1. I think the graphics in Shaolin Monks were freaking amazing......then again I really dont like what I have seen of beowolf graphics. The stuff in that movie looks plastic.

It's a fun game when you have an enthusiastic friend to play it with. Relax and afternoon and have some fun brawling! God knows there are not enough GOOD co-op games out there. This one was practically made for co-op since alot of parts of the game are only accessible when you have both players playing since you need to rely on both skills. Give it a rent or just look at how gamespot scored it. There is ALOT of fan-fare in here as well. Lots of tributes and homages, old-school MortalKombat fans should feel right at home. If you don't like Liu Kang you're prolly a newb at MK and therefore need not to play this game. Go rent a mario game or something.
