In my opinion, Magna Carta: Tears of Blood.
It was better than many Final Fantasy Titles, Graphics, Story, Gameplay. Production levels on par with Final Fantasy titles as well.
I have no idea why this isn't a definitive RPG when people think of PS2 RPG's.
Anybody else havd underrated PS2 games?

Heh. When I read the topic name, I thought to myself "75% of JRPGs are underappreciated..." and bam, I click on the thread and I see one of the most obscure PS2 JRPGs listed here. :P The complaints about the game are that it's generally extremely, extremely slow, and the mechanic of your party members sitting there getting beaten up at almost all times can get frustrating. As for my own impression, well, I'll probably have a review up after I beat the game (should be arriving at the end of this week, not sure how long I'll take to beat it). It's not a definitive PS2 RPG because A. It wasn't advertised, B. Wonky character designs, c. Average-decent ratings, D. slow pace, and finally E. The fact that there are so many PS2 RPGs, a good portion of which I'm quite confident (even without playing Magna Carta for more than a rental period) are better.
About Monster Hunter, while it may literally be under "Rated" by many review sites, it's certainly not underappreciated, due to the fairly large fanbase. Also, MH really wasn't all that good of a game. It's not like it was heavily underrated or anything.
About Dragon Ball Z Budokai 1 and 2.... 1 and 2 were mediocre games, some of the worst fighting games of their time. That's not to say they're actually all that bad, it's just that they're not deep, and the only fighting games America gets are the ones that ARE in fact deep. Budokai 1 and 2 pale in comparison to any of those games. Budokai 3, however, is a lot deeper than the first two games, although still not on the level of other fighters. Budokai 3 also got very high ratings.
As for my opinion, most JRPGs on the PS2 (or otherwise) are underrated/underappreciated due to the fact that most review sites don't appreciate RPGs, and you know, no one buys them. The exception to this is Square Enix games, most of which sell anywhere from fairly well to incredibly well.
