I was expecting the ps3, xbox 360, and the wii to be really great, like with next gen graphics, power and speed, but now it is just a big let down, espically the ps3, i expected more from itwashb28879

Many will beg you to wait and see what happens but quite frankly, I've waited long enough. If you were to look at the PS2's 1 1/2 year mark (which is where the 360 is right now), the PS2 already got games such as GTA III, MGS2, Jak & Daxter, GT3, Tekken Tag Tournament, Devil May Cry and to many of you, FFX. The only fantastic 360 game I have played is Oblivion. The next gen does suck, all its doing is adding stupid gimmicks like old ass novelty motion sensing games, the importance of micritransactions, or turning your high end PS3/360 into a Tivo so you can record shows digitally through your console. Its not about the games anymore. Which is why video games are dead after these three pieces of crap destroy video gaming as we know it.2deluxe
the ps3 hasnt been out for a year yet.hopefully mgs4 will be out this year, dmc4 aswell, gta4,tekken not sure what number, and ps3 may also get ff 13 out by the end of the year or in 2008. also there are some big unestablished games. like heavenly sword, lair, motorstorm, resistance and the new naughty dog game drakes fortune or something. but yeah ps3 isnt worth getting yet, nor was wii it was somewhat of an impulse buy for me, and i dont plan to ever purchase a 360 .
Basically sony struck lucky with psx and ps2, now its feelin' the pain...Theguywithshirthaha look at this guy....struck LUCKY with 2 out of 3 of their gaming consoles oh and how about the PSP genius? lol oh and if sony was uh ahem "lucky" with the psx and ps2 then......what are u doin readin the ps2 forums?
Maybe if all of you actually HAD the money or weren't money-pinchers you would actually OWN a next gen console and SEE how amazing they are.
I KNOW that all of you are downplaying next gen JUST BECAUSE you either don't have the money, or are too tight to give it up.
You are going to miss out on some great games. Especially this holiday season with MGS4, Killzone, DMC4, GTA4, Assasin's Creed, Heavenly Sword. Not to forget Resistance, Motorstorm, and Oblivion.
That's a lot to miss out on because you're stubborn.
Umm, money isn't an issue. I can get all 360 and PS3 today if I really wanted to but you and every other next-gen owner has not given me any really good reasons (other than the games that will be out soon) to get either system. I plan on buying a next-gen system with at least seven top of the line games that are out, with more to follow. MSG4 and DMC4 and possibly Oblivion will be the titles to get, although I know nothing about Assassin's Creed. I am not looking forward to playing FPS games (Killzone, Resistance) and have no interest in playing Motostorm.

Developers are used to working under the limitations of the previous generation and are under pressure to get games out for the new systems. So you see a lot of games and ideas carried over from last gen, just prettied up a bit. Give it some time, and you'll be playing some amazing stuff that you could have never seen coming. In the meantime enjoy the games that are pushing your PS2 to the limits with great graphics and gameplay, there's plenty to choose from.

You know this, eh? You know no such thing. Why are you assuming that those of us who are disappointed in the next-gen offerings don't already have one? I've owned a 60GB PS3 for months, I own every PS3 game I can buy that has any appeal to me, and I see exactly what it has to offer me. And I do find it disappointing thus far, especially compared to my PS2.
You are completely missing the point here -- it has nothing to do with the money. Heck, I've spent far more rounding out my library of PS2 games in the last 3 months alone, than the PS3 cost me. Money isn't the issue, it's the quality and selection of the games, and more importantly the way in which game development for the new consoles seems to be shifting away from the kinds of varied offerings we've been used to, and more towards a "blockbuster movie" mentality where everyone is concentrating on multi-platform sure-fire hits to try and offset the insanely high development costs for the next-gen machines.
We are several months into the PS3's release, and a year and a half into the X360's release, and compared to where the PS2 was at those intervals after its U.S. release, the pickings are just not very attractive for a lot of us. Will this eventually get better, as time goes on and we (hopefully) see a larger installed user base of the PS3 to attract more variety of projects? I sure hope so. But so far, it's been underwhelming -- and that's true for a lot of us who already own a next-gen console, as well as those who don't.

Well, you're basing a lot on what you hope will be great games, but the truth is we won't know what they're like until they are released. I have high hopes for several of them myself, but for now that's all it is -- hope. To me, Motorstorm is further proof that we seem to be trading depth of gameplay and content for pure graphics -- it looks nice, but it's far from a great game. There's actually very little game there at all. This is turning into a trend so far, even with something as normally reliable as Virtua Fighter. VF5 gives us high-poly HD flash, but the AI -- which was an incredibly strong point in VF4 and VF4EVO for the PS2 -- is comparatively braindead, missing in action, despite the PS3's massive computing power. What the heck happened? Why are most of the EA sports titles also so trimmed down and feature-limited for next-gen? Why are we getting so many next-gen games that are focusing on delivering the graphics, but sacrificing the gameplay, content, and other features that we're accustomed to on their older-console counterparts?
Say what you will, but I personally find a lot of it disappointing. And good as Oblivion is, I think it's a sad commentary that months down the road, by far the best and most appealing game for the PS3 is a port of a game we've already played on the PC for over a year now... and it was only just now finally released, minus all the extras, downloadable content, and customization from the PC version of course. It's still a great game, but it should have been a launch title in November, as it was supposed to be. The fact that even this late its still the best thing available on the system is a cause for concern to me.
Again, I hope it'll get better, but only time will tell. In the meantime, you need to get over this idea that the only people who aren't blown away into gushing fanboyism by next-gen are somehow poor or stubborn or ignorant of what's available. We're not -- a lot of us know all too well what is and is not available to us so far.
