Will you sell your beloved PS2?

I can see two possible scenarios after that:

1 - PS2 will keep outselling PS3 for a long time

2 - PS3consoles with bundled Emotion Engine are going to be rare and unique pieces of hardware.

Personally, I can´t understand why Sony is messing up so much with their marketing strategies. Dropping backwards compatibility is such a lousy idea. My grandmother would have better thoughts than that. The whole Sony marketing department are nothing but a bunch of morons.

I don't plan on buying a PS3 for a while, especially since there's still life in the PS2. I usually don't mess with backwards compatibility much, especially since the games usually run better on the system in which they were intended for.

Im glad I got the 60GB instead..buaha... I'd be seriously pissed, because thats one reason I chose ps3 over xbox360, backwards compatibility has caught me up on the great games that I otherwise would have missed like "god of war 2" "devil may cry 3" and 1,000 others! : )

With the latest price drop, I am seriously considering a PS3 for Christmas or Easter. Sure there is no BC, less USB ports and no card reader but think of it this way. If you are willing to accept that you dont need to play older games on the PS3, you can accept the loss of BC and the reader. I dont play multiplayer so the loss of USB wont hurt too much. I will get a larger drive and install it myself and voila, problem solved.

Hopefully they release some good stuff in the future, it is the only remaining stumbling block.

Nope. I will not sell anymore of my consoles ever. I only made that mistake once- with PS1. I regret it even now.

Why though? What is so special about a 200 Gb drive? Aside from price, nothing I can think of. You can easily get a 7200 RPM 2.5" drive on your own instead of the 5400 RPM supplied as a cheaper and faster solution.

My objective is to get the 60GB with BC just because the option is there. I never beat FFXII because my PS2 died before I could finish it, and I'd like to go back and do that, along with many other games, but I also don't see much point in getting another PS2 (it would be my third one) if I can obtain a PS3 and have the past and the future all in one system. But, if I can't get that, eventually I'd settle for the 80GB PS3 and just move on to the current generation. BC is probably 20% of the value of a PS3 to me, so I can live without it.

Will the 40 GB PS3 have BC through emulation or have they done away with it completely?

Sony is doing a lot of changes to their consoles that totally blows my mind. That one article on GS states some higher up from Sony saying removing BC does not dramatically reduce production cost. So why not include it with the PS3? If you arent saving much money nor losing much by keeping it, you might as well damn keep it. All it does is make the console more versatile. I really dont get it. Their marketing strategies have been off the wall. I dont give a squat at hard drive space, usb slots, memory reader, toe jam remover, etc. Get some freakin games in now. They are losing right now and they deserve it. Too many skus, too many price drops, losing too many exclusives, yada yada yda.

I heard from someone else (?) on line that the whole Backwards Compatibility issue is only so much of a problem as you can get emulated games downloaded on the Playstation online network - which still means that it is a proble, for those of us who do not have the ability to get on to a Sony site or do not want to worry yet about subscription service or the hardware(?) needed to get us there. The other, more direct problem with this is unless Sony releases some hardware for a person to be able to write there own DVDs off of the PS3 (which is doubtful), then the PS2 games are going to eventually take up a fair amount of room on the Hard drive. Truthfully, I think that the PS2's are so cheap right now that this isn't so much of a factor. Perhaps an adaptor will be made to allow faithful PS2 fans to play their much loved games on the new PS3's after their original system fails.

You can only get PS1 games from PSN

Besides isent it cheaper to get a 40G AND a PS2 then it is to get just a 60GB?
