My ps2 won't read discs lately.

Have you tried cleaning the laser, the piece that reads it? If it is grimy or dusty it won't be able to read the discs (it works by reading light that reflects off them). Maybe you should check that, don't give up hope!

I'm pretty sure you can get discs with special brushes that come with cleaning fluid. You put the fluid on the brushes, the disc in the playstation/PC/stereo/etc and it will clean the laser for you.

I cleaned the disc reader (Clean DR cleaning disc) and it still refuses to read my Spyro: Year Of The Dragon (PS1) disc.

And I know it can read PS1 discs. Maybe I'll figure somethin' out. :/

* PS2 lens is out of alignment

* The disc needs cleaning

* Wrong region

* You are trying to read a burned disk on an un-modified PS2

* Your PS2 is just worn out from old age

Well, I have had the ps2 for a looooooong time.

I know it's not a burned disc.

Not the wrong region.

hmm, the disc could need cleaning. :/

If possible you can clean the lens with a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol.

Also you can try using the Auto Diagnosis function witin the PS2 : http://www.us.playstation.com/support/ps2/hardwaresystem/default.html
