I was wandering if there is anyone out there who thinks like me?

Meaning there are games that has been altered to have english dialogue instead of japanese, for the american release versions such as Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Final fantasy series, etc. I know this is usual for most japanese games being released in the u.s, u.k and australia but I hate the english voices.

I watch Bleach and Naruto in original japanese dialogue with english subtitles. I have seen Naruto dubbed version and it is totally crap. I have checked out the Naruto: konoha Spirits and Uzumaki Ninden/chronicles game and I say I prefer to get the japanese version but I hope that one day game companies can meet half way. Keep the voices and clips in japanese but have english subtitles for them and the text in the menu or text speeches, just change them to english.

If playing the Naruto game, I hope to hear him shout "Rasengan" instead of either nothing, a scream or "power strike"

This is just me. So many great japanese games out there that are only released in japan. And when converted to english, it would have stuff cut out, crappy dialoguies, things changed such as Naruto game. (see wiki site for changes) FFX I have the english/japanese int'l version. Though have not tried it out yet. The intro song sounds good in japanese. Converted to english felt the added voices did not blend in, certain sound depths, low and highs wasn't that good and didn't have the right feel.

I just want to know if there are people out there who think like me and agree

Cheers

subs are always preferable to dubs, they just sound better.

I agree... subs are better! I hate it when they dub over video games with English and the mouths don't match up (not to mention VA talent, lol). In videos games is more noticeable than in anime. But what I hate more is when they do that and then don't give you the option of having the Japanese audio and subs... that really drives me nuts. :P

I don't really care. I don't get into the whole Japanese themes like some people do. I've had two Japanese Room Mates in college, both live in Japan during the summer.. Japan culture is really not that amazing. As long as I can understand what they are saying I could careless what version it is in.

i play my Dead or Alive games with the voices in japanese. i have every DOA game made and i keep all of the voice preferences set to japanese2ndWonder

DOA is a prime example, I think the voice over is awful so much so it puts me right off. Final Fantasy isn't so bad, I mean FFX, X-2 & XII were ok I could play through them no problem, but I'm a fan of the older FF's like VII, VIII & IX where there were no voice acting. They should bring this back.

It depends because wht about games like MEtal Gear Solid, even Hideo Kojima prefers the English voices over the Japanese, David Hayter does a fantastic job on Solid Snake.

Although i also hear where you are coming from when it comes to animes but overall just depends on whos hearing it.

sometimes, but english is better, because you can understand everything they say so you can finish the game quickly. i have ffvii and ffxii in japanese and i didn't know how to finish the game with japanese dialouges and when i got english version of the two games it got easier so i prefer english over japanese, but sometimes i like anime cartoons in japanese with english subtitles, but for games i like english the best.

My thing is if you arent going to put Final Fantasy money into it to make the translation GOOD and the voiceovers decent-GOOD then I want an option to leave the game in Japanese and turn on some subs. **** I want the option anyway even if you put the money into it to make the translation good. It's just alot of the time it is better in its own language..

Subs > dubs hands down,

The strongest part of the audio is the emotions represented by the actors. Hearing acurate emotions from the voices tells alot more about characters relations than flat dialogue.

90% of the dubed games still come with a sub option so i dont see why they cant just leave the already made sound samples in.

It will never happen. There are a lot gamers who prefer dub and I talk about all gamers , not just only you guys/gal on gamespot . IMO , sub + dub should be default for every game that get localize but Japanese Voice Option should be include too.

It depends on the game.  Some English dubbed games sound just as awful in Japanese.

It depends on the game. I played PSX Grandia both versions (USA and Japanese) and I felt the Japanese version's voices more exciting. Some games like the new Hokuto no Ken 2D Fighting Game (awesome and definately worth it) has some English sentences but most of the game is in Japanese.

I don't think that there'll be an English version of this game, but since I'm a Kenshiro Fan, I wouldn't miss it due to lack of translation....

Some of you may not know it but even the Japanese dubs can be terrible and are poorly done (Tenchu Kurenai, Soul Calibur, Final Fantasy XII). Yes Metal Gear Solid is better in English but I hate David Hayter's annoying voice, everyone else performs well. How the various types of Japanese sounds are terrible as a whole, it's not a pleasing language to hear like German or Scandanavian languages. There isn't much range in Japanese so that's why all the voices sound so familiar. A good dub can exist, and they will work as long as some things have been changed. All in all, it really depends on how much a studio spends on its voice over actors. Get a cheap one and you'll have bad results (Star Ocean), hire celebrities and you'll get celebrity quality voice overs (Kingdom Hearts).

I don't feel like celebrities give good voice acting actually...not unless they're trained in specifically Voice acting (which I think, is harder than normal acting)...Billy West wrote a bit on that on his website (he's so awesome :D).  So yea, the voice acting in the first Kingdom Hearts kinda bothered me.  I think FFXII is doing a really good job though (haven't finished it).  A big improvement from the other voice acting they had in the other games..  i haven't heard the Japanese version to compare.

I want to be able to choose between the Japanese and English audio too (^_^) Sometimes I can't play my games cuz the English acting is so bad it's embarassing...and I don't want my family making fun of me (^^; )  I don't get why some games give you a choice and some dont; if they include both it would make everyone happy, right?  Maybe it's a space issue...or a political one, like they don't want to allow people to compare the VA quality between both languages :P  But yea, I think most people, especially people who aren't TOO into games, prefer things in English...same with movies...it's only recently we're getting *some* subtitled, foreign films around here. Sometimes they translate things so stupid too!!  I was playing one of the King of Fighters games (the 3D one...not sure which is that), and when they yell out the names of their moves/taunts in English, it sounds so gay "Show me the color of your flames" what??  Even if it's the same meaning in Japanese, at least it sounds cooler, haha.

They just need to leave the option in for both the English dub and the Japanese/Subs. That way we can choose. It just sucks when you like it one way or the other and they force you to listen to the one you don't want. Like someone said earlier, most dubbed games have subtitles so why can't they just leave the Japanese audio in there as an option since it's already done and they don't have to do anymore work to it. Doesn't seem like that would be to hard or too much to ask. :)

I just hate the dubs, the subs is the best. It's like when I watch anime, must be in japanese or else I go crazy with those stupid dubs.

The games I can choose orgianal voices I do put on and just have subs.

Man, what are they doing to the world today ;p
