The Dual Shock 2 has press-sensitive buttons and better vibration, but the Dual Shock 1 does work on the PS2. An original PS1 controller without analog sticks also works, although there are very few games playable without an analog stick. And yeah, PS1 memory cards work on the PS2, but only for PS1 games (and PS2 memory cards only work for PS2 games).
lol thats what i like about it, im still using my ps1 controller on my ps2 and it's weird i bought like 3 ps2 controllers and they all didn't last long either it sucked,
some PS2 games (around 10% of them) don't support PS1 controllers, it'll just say "please insert a PS2 dulashock controller into controller port 1". My friend had this problem, he had a PS1 controller and tried to play burnout 3, all of his other games worked fine with the PS1 controller but B3 didn't accept it.
You can onlyuse PS1 memory cards for PS1 games and PS2 memory cards for PS2 games.
You can transfer data in the menu from your PS1 card to a PS2 card. You just can't pull the data from a PS2 card to load, you must transfer back to the PS1 card...make sense? This works well to clear up space on a ps1 card.

Another game that won't let u use a PS1 controller is Phantasy Star Universe.
I have a dual shock 1 controller and works perfect. if I can save $30 by using that theni will. what do you fail to see about saving money?summer_star17x
I got two when I got my ps2, it was some sort of package deal. That does make sense, though now you could probably get them cheap, with the ps3 out and all.
