Hello. I just got a PS2. How many years can this system last and how common are disk read errors. I hear disk read errors are

as common to a PS2 as the three red rings are to 360, which is bad because I find the Ps2 to be a good gaming console.

I've had mine for six years, logged 1000 hours into it, still playing it.  Never had a single problem.

Is your console new or used? I got a Playstation 2 maybe, a year after it launched and then within 2 years I started getting the dreaded DREs. However, after picking up a new console I didn't have any further problems since. Good luck with your system!

Seriously how long can PS2's last if you take good care of them. I may sell my PS2 if they are built to last only five years max. My saturn is older than that and it still runs fine.

U shouldn't worry 'bout PS2 breaking coz PS2s are actually very reliable. Not as reliable as GCs but still disc read errors aren't really all that common. xbox1.5s on the other hand tend to break very easily and ~60% of xbox1.5s have broken at least once. I meant the European version of xbox1.5 and the survey which revealed the fact was made by 360gamer. Someone else can post a link if u don't trust me.

i bought my ps2 the first days it was released (about 7 years ago) i use it alot to play games and DVDs and its still working just fine

i think the probability of breaking depends on how the owner takes care of its console.

I would guess 20 for any console thats taken good care of.

Really it does not matter since you can just buy a PS2 or a PS3 (perhaps even a PS4) as its backwards compatible. Besides consoles never die out, just look up on ebay.

In my experience, PS2s are a very reliable system. I've had mine for a good six years now, and it still runs perfectly. I've never had a bit of trouble with it.
