Lets face it the slim is lightweight heats slowly and i mean very slowly and it runs better and a little touch of better graphics but hardly any and it is also smaller and easier to pick up and take to other places and install. Ps2 slim makes everything easier if you own a ps2 big one regular you should think about getting a slim they are way better trust me. people keep telling you they burn up quick? don't trust them they are just backing up their consoles trust me take it from a guy who owns both a regular ps2 and a ps2 slim so i have compared them good.

Why should I plunk down $129 for a slim when I have a perfectly functioning ps2 fatty?  Because the slim is more portable?  Give me a break.  I'd rather spend the $129 on more games.

Exactly. I got a slim one because my big PS2 broke. If it still worked, I wouldn't have gotten a slim.

Well i'm thinking about getting a slimline model because i am afraid my old fatty might brake soon, I've had mine for over 5 years. I also would like to have one 'cause the older model takes up too much room, or maybe i should just save up for a Playstation 3, but that monster of a console would take up too much space too.  :)

I'll admit that part of me wants the silver PS2 slim because it's freakin' SILVER.  But then the sensible part of me slaps that sillyness right out my head.

Of all the things to start a topic on, this must be one of the most pointless ones.  No one in their right mind would replace a perfectly working console with one that is exactly the same just smaller.  After getting my xbox, all my other consoles were dwarfed in comparison with that tank of a console.

A little touch of better graphics? WHAT!!??!?! Really, is it true? I though the games would look exactly the same... Link plz... How shameful that I wasn't aware that my Slim PS2 runs games with better graphics than my old PS2... Yeah I got and they work. I needed to play online so I bought the slim since I couldn't find that adapter

If you own a PS2 big one regular you should think about getting a slim. Maybe u should think about getting a PS3. PS2 is dead, long live PS3. All those buying an xbox over PS3... U are the worst! I mean do u even like xbox games, the company that made xbox, or just the plain ugliness of the console when compared to PS3 and Wii. It looks better than the original xbox but still it's pretty bad. If u buy an xbox make sure u do it for the games and not for the price... And check out the link in my sig to withness the fact that over 60% of xboxes break. If don't want to play Jaks, GoWs, Ratchets, MGS4, FFs, Tekkens, GTs... Please pick xbox and play those console FPS games. Really, FPS is a genre not suitable for consoles, other than Wii of course.

I chose the fat Ps2 because i really like that one better than the slim PS2 and i had it was the PS2 that i first bought. Besides it works great after being fixed. This all happen last year around this time

I have the same good old fashioned fatty PS2 since launch date back in the end of the year 1999, and it's been working on me fine since then (no freezes, I take care of my console and games well). It's a freakin console system, why would you need to upgrade it to a SLIM edition anyway? It's not like your holding it with you at all times, it's sitting right beside your TV anyway.

This isn't the same situation as the DSLite vs DSPhat scenario (in which case the DSLite has more reasons to upgrade towards even if you already own a DSPhat. Getting A slim PS2 when you already own an original designed PS2 is simply a pathetic attempt at staying up-to-date with the latest techno style, like those iPod freaks that upgrade at every generation of iPod releases...)

The fat PS2 can use the hard drive and multitap. The fat one also has an off switch, you skinnys either leave it on standby or pull out the plug.

Ps2 slim beats regular big ps2! I say: NOT A FAT CHANCE.

Try playing for more than 12 hours and leave the console running for another 12 hours. The poor slim might overheat and die. Not the case with Big Fat PS2, cause I have done it and my Fatty just kept on going. 8)

I agree. I had so many issues with the original PS2. The disc read errors just unbearable for me, so I got a slimline, and I haven't had any trouble since.

Why? The Phat has no built in network adapter, is bulky and the disc tray loads slower than a quick flip top slim. As far as the HDD arguement goes, 9 people owned that thing.

dr_jashugan

Actually if that really happened, then something went real wrong with the small PS2. Yes they do get hot simply because it does not have that big ass fan found in the original model and everything is much more compact thus result in heat (plus its a piece of electronic, which are normal to get hot when used). I've heard that the thing has a fail safe device in an event of extreme heat that the thing would shut off and will function properly if used at a later time.

i don't really understand all these posts about the slim line PS2 overheating. i used to own a slim line PS2 (had to sell it to a frienddue to money troubles :() but i used to play the hell out of it. i left it on for a day and a half and nothing happened. I got it when they first came out on the market and my friend has been enjoying it since i sold it to him. they're much more reliable than you all think...i'm about to re-buy a slim line PS2. but then again i kind of want a PS3 too...

Well not neccessarily well first off the slim one cant have better graphics because it has the exact same graphics processor( that would mean that you are backing up your console) the slim one has a better chance of scaratching games because the disc inserting process ( you have to put the disc in and be extra cautious like a ps1).. not many people care how portable a home console is... its not like you are going to be holding it in your hands for a long period of time anyways, just like any other console you connect to a tv, and yes that one really does have a better chance of burning up quicker than the bulky one, there is like no ventalation... Ive played on both, and the majority of the people would say that they would prefer the bulky one if the had to choose when it comes to a home console, size really dont matter, You are just going to connect it, and set it down

That's your decision. Do you want to spend $130 for a ps2? If you know your gonna get a ps3 soon then you might as well just save it. I don't know. Ultimately it is your decision.
