I just bought Shadow Hearts: From The New World. And I'm just wondering to understand the story do I need to play the older ones? I hate playing newer games when I have missed something in the games. Any info would help out alot! Thanks!

You can play it without needing prior knowledge--it's a completely different story than the first two. Though, you'll appreciate it more if you've played the first two because you'll notice stuff that those that didn't play the prior ones won't.
