I think sh4 is the best SH. I think the plot of the "room" is more absorbing. The whole horrible scenarios were revealed bit by bit through the paper stick under the door , which cliffhang me much. Most think SH2 is classic , but the plot of it is abstract and hard to understand by just finishing the game once. But i must say that the "bring back the item and put it in the storage box" is annoying.

Originals are always best, except RE2 was the best in that series.

So SH 1 was the best. :D

I didn't really like SH4. SH3's the best SH, and the best horror game on the PS2 IMO.

sh2 is the only one i've got so i'd say 2 was mediocre at best . the action was way to slow and cumbersome , but that's just my opinion ( pretty scarey though )

The game felt more like a chore to play through. I have to admit, there were some pretty cool moments in the game, but there were lots of little changes that, to me, did not make the game a lot of fun to play.

The way the inventory worked, the boring melee combat, the ghost were more of a pain to deal with, going through most of the areas in the game twice and then trying to take care of what's-her-name. I really couldn't bring myself to play through it a second time.

Still, there were some really creepy moments that I really liked, but I found myself more bored than interested.

I think its almost unanimous that SH4 is the worst one of the series. I hated the 'revisiting' worlds thing. Going back to the same areas is always a cheap gimmick in games to increase length.

The game was "good" at best.

For some reason it scared me and made me jump the most.

But the quality of the game was NOT Silent Hill. Probably cause it originally WASN'T a Silent Hill title.

I mean look at the stupid monkey babies. Don't tell me those sound loops don't give you a headache. Not to mention the sound loops you'll suffer through if you put the doll in the chest in your apartment.

The storyline is interesting, but when I finished the game I felt like something HUGE was missing from it.

Nurses? Look like men? In Hospital gowns? That burp?

Yeah. Did you even finish playing SH2? Cause it's much much better.

The premise and scenario of Silent Hill 4: The Room is one of the best in the series.  I think they executed it pretty well, too.

i think 2 is the best just because the story is very involving and personal.  i like that in it the town became a place where people were "brought" to be punished.  the whole james/mary thing is good stuff.  and that prison/ labyrinth part with pyramid head bustin nuts was scary as balls.

1 was/is really scary and the story is perty damn good

3 was imo scarier than 1 and 2 but to me was just a painful rape and tack on to the end of the 1st games story.

4's ghosts were awesome and the premise was great but in the end it just felt really empty and meh.

so for me at least it goes 2 - 1 - 4- 3

SH2, best out of all of them, and it is really scary,  SH3 was ok for a while, now it is no problem. 4 needed a little more work. there were some things I didn't really like, it didn't take place in silent hill.
