am looking for a good action rpg (just beat shin megami tensei: nocturne), so am looking for a change of pace. Ive always wanted to get one of these two titles, and now would be the opportunity to do so, but since i can get only one, the desicion is a bit tough...

Basically whicih game has the best battle system and story,, and is overall more emjoyable? I want one that is paced very well, since i usually fall asleep when playing some rpgs with very large, dull moments.

So whicih would be your pick?

Although I have not played radientyet. Abyss is great for the fighting mechanics, and decent on the story. It all depends on you. Frankly I'd say Abyss just because its 1 of the few RPG's that will make you want to continusly fight throughout it instead of growing tired of it.

I'll probably be drowned by the Tales fans but Radiata is the better game.

I Still think the best Tales game of them all was Eternia. I wish I could have played Tales of Destiny 2 but it was never released over here.(The tales of destiny 2 that was released for PS over here was actually tales of eternia.)

I'm going to have to say Radiata is a lot funnier.  It has a certain sense of humor that I don't think I've seen in a game, I mean it's actually funny.

Both games are great though.  I'll give the nudge to Tales for it's battle system -not that Radiata's battle system is bad, it's just not as customizable- but given a choice, I'd pick Radiata simply because it's more enjoyable over all.

Radiata has two different endings with over 175 characters to find to join your cause.  There's also a whole day/night cycle which plays heavily on many aspects of the game and really gives the games towns life.(ie: a character you're looking for will be in different areas of the town depending on the time of day)

Anyway, I think Radiata Stories is really underated as it's a really enjoyable experience all around.

Radiata Stories is definitely the better game. I mean, in how many games can you kick any person 3 times to fight them? That's just neat. And don't think just because they're old they're weak. Radiata Stories is also one of the funniest games on the PS2. Together with Disgaea II and Tales of the Abyss the only games that can make me LOL. Tales of the Abyss has the better battle system though. The first thing I wanted to do when I was fighting with multiple party members in Radiata Stories, was switch to a different party member. Well... ya can't. It does have a very nice command giving system, though.

I'd have to go with Radiata Stories, I own both but with Radiata's 177 characters and it's split storylines, it's altogether a better game. The graphics are better and the voice acting was easier to listen to. And as with a story from square-enix, it's worth it in every way. Also, the longer you play Tales, the longer the loading time gets. I don't know what is up with it, but it gets irritating if you plan on playing for a good length of time. Check out both games and find the one that's right for you. They both have a similar battle config. and the story to both is good. I just thought i'd post my opinion so I hope this helps.

If I had to choose, I would say Radiata Stories. Tales of the Abyss lost my interest halfway, Radiata just kept me going. In any case, they're both just as good. To be honest though, Tales of Symphonia I think was better than Abyss (except for the addition of the 3d movement in battles for Abyss).

Radiata Stories by far. Namco's "Tales of" franchise has become so spent over used and cliched that it's not worth it any more. When you've played one "Tales of" game you have played them all.

Both games are good, but Radiata is better. Lots of things to do, 177 characters, a secret dungeon, 2 endings meaning= replayability. Lots of jokes

i want to thank everyone for your opinions. I think am gonna go with Radiata Stories, mainlt beecause rpgs these days dont have much humor, so thats pretty good about that game.

Also, has anyone noticed a striking resemblance to FF9, in terms of art style?

I'm glad you picked Radiata, but I don't see the FFIX similarity.

Overall I think Tales of the Abyss is the better game, though seeing as Radiata does a great job with humour, thats a huuge plus in my book
