You've all probably seen videos of people playing games like Devil May Cry or God Hand or pretty much ANY game, and i'm wondering HOW these people record these videos. On a computer it would just be a case of using a program, but i don't know how this works on a PS2 or any other console for that matter. Could someone enlighten me on how this works?
Thanks for your time.

My friend actually hooked his console up to his VCR and then the VCR to the TV and was able to record himself playing. He then got it on his computer to edit it later.

Hmm... yeah i can imagine that some messing around with input channels and so on could lead to recording what you're playing, but i wonder if there's an "official" way. There has to be some standardised way, how else would game developers record their gameplay trailers for console games?

The popular way is using a TV Capture card for a PC.

With capture cards, one can connect the PS2 to the PC. And often the software accompanying the card includes a recording application with which you can take screenshots or take video..

Interesting, how do these cards work? And how much does one cost?

Well the problem i have is that when you connect the PS2 to the PC and use software to record it that you either have to play on your PC screen or switch the video to your TV. now i know these DVI slots dont break easily but after a year or so of switching back and forth it might get lame/paralysed effectively breaking the slot.

Most videocards have two DVI outputs and the perfect setup would simply broadcast windows to your PC screen and the PS2 signal from the TV-card to your TV however idont have a clue how to get this working.

To get high quality videos from your ps2, buy a tv card for your computer and you'll be fine

Plug a VCR into the TV. Then plug the system into the VCR. That;'s just the simple way.
