Recently I had a professional look at my PlayStation 2 to fix the disc read error problem I repeatedly got. So I left it with him for about a week and he returned it to me and said that he couldn't do anything, and that some sort of tape had broke, but he said it was not that big of a deal because he thought that the tape was just to hold the machine together. After I tried it out again, I couldn't even get the power on. I'm guessing that that tape had some sort of affect on the machine other than keeping it together. If anyone knows what to do in this situation please tell me, I called Sony and they told me that they couldn't take the machine if it has been tampered with by a third party source so if anyone has any solutions to my problem please help me. I really don't want a broken machine when I could've had it fixed in the first place.

Exactly what happened to me, the tape ripped and that was it, I had to get a slimline. Now I could be wrong but I think once the tape on the inside rips, theres nothing u can do about it.

The tape that he's probably referring to is the power ribbon that connects the power button to the machine. He isgiving you BS, trying to say it wasn't his fault. If you paid him to look at it you should make him pay you back. What kind of professional is he?I don't call myself a professional and I've taken apart several PS2 machines already without ever breaking it.

You should've just read up on the procedure on the internet (there's probably some video out there)and you could've fixed it yourself - depends on how old you are I guess. Every procedure warns people to carefully pry the cover open and warns about the power ribbon. There's probably an inch to 2 inches in slack so unless you yank hard I don't see how people rip these. (which begs me to ask: seeing as how the PS2 is a small consumer electronic why would anyone pull the cover off without caution)

yes, it's the power ribbon. Your PS2 is as good as broken. The only thing i can suggest is if you want to save money but don't mind the hassle of installation then you can purchase a broken PS2 on ebay and use the parts from it.

The best choice would be to purchase a PS2 Slim. It's cheap, no disk read errors, no over-heating problems.
