The Silent Hil Series is better as the stories are AMAZING, especially #2!

I can only cast my opinion from what I've played.  I've played Silent Hill 2, which I didnt' really enjoy and I've played RE: Code Veronica(PS2 version) and RE 4(Gamecube version).  I'd say Resident Evil from what I've played, but you should look into both first.

I've played both and I own both, but even though I like Silent Hill and everything, I will have to go with Resident Evil all the way..

I personally like Silent Hill, though I will admit RE4 is better then any of the games in the SH series.

I like the B-rated thrills of Resident Evil better over the creepiness of Silent Hill. Resident Evil has successfully reinvented itself. Still waiting to see how Silent Hill is given a makeover.

silent hill history is better, but the resident evil games are better than see god..... so RE are the best.

I've played the Resident Evil games and the Silent Hill games and I prefer Resident Evil. The scare factor for me is higher. I always jump when I see the zombies, or especially the zombie dogs... RE4 though didn't have that same impact for me, probably because the characters weren't "zombies" in the traditional sense... Silent Hill games are good, they just don't provide me with the same level of fear that Resident Evil does... ;)

Depends on how you look at 'em. Resident Evil I've found has better gameplay (moreso RE4). Silent Hill has better atmosphere (it's far creepier). Take your pick...

Silent Hill is too scary for me. I like Biohazard better. It has more action yet not as scary.

I've only played one game in each series--RE4 and a bit of SH2. Just from those two games, I would say RE is way better. RE4 was one of the most awesome games I've played, whereas SH2...well, I never even got into it enough to finish it (although I still intend to go back and beat it one of these days).

I perfer resident evil series, but still also like silent hill too so pretty much are still good for me though.

REsident evil is more in-your-face action based while silent hill has the scared of the unknown atmosphere
Whatever floats your boat.

Savest bet is always not to read other peoples opinions but to see some actual gameplay clips on sites like youtube and use that as your base for buying one over the other.

Silent Hill is scarier and has an overall better story with better puzzles in my pov but Resident Evil is more fun and has more action. I love both tbh.

Hard to say, because Resident Evil is about fast, frantic, never-know-whats-around-the-corner gameplay, while Silet Hill focuses mainly on creepy, psychological horror.If I had to choose,probably Silent Hill.

RE4 is a better game then silent hil. l but silent hill is a better horror game. RE4 was just about shooting and nothing else.

I like resident evil and all.

 

But Silent Hill kicks the crap out of it. No contest.

 

Stronger storylines.

Better characters.

Better quality scares.

Pays better attention to detail.

The Silent Hill series is like an art collection. Resident Evil is a game series. 

Slowly progresses into psychological horror, instead of RE's B rated IN YOUR FACE scare tactics.

 

Depends on what you're looking for. 

RE is very fun, and the gameplay is really enjoyable, but it can't beat Silent Hill in my eyes.

Personally, I like Silent Hill better as a Survival Horror. IMO, better story, better characters, scarier atmosphere with better music.

 

However, Resident Evil has better characters.
