I'd look towards Kingdom Hearts if I was you. If you're looking for something that's just straight forward though and you don't mind length I'd try Rogue Galaxy. Asking for a simple rpg with very little gametime is hard for me to think of since I like my rpg's to give me at least 75+ hours of gameplay.

Final Fantasy VII

Only because its simple, short ( well around 30-40hours of story, butthats short concidering Persona 3 is at around 100+), probably cheap, and memorable. Its what got me hooked.

I think Lunar and Lufia and perhaps the original Shining Force or Dragon Quest games would be best for a beginner, as they all have very uncomplicated stories, gameplay, and character custimization. I dont think its possible to die in Lunar period even if you dont attack. It is probably the easiest game ive ever played. Perhaps the most generic also. The series has no depth or character, but depth and character generally make things more complex and not beginner oriented.

Final fantasy games in general are THE casual friendly RPG games

I can reccomend FFX as it also negates any form of tracking down/exploration

I highly recommend dragon quest 8 if you are looking for a traditional RPG. I wasn't a fan of final fantasy X but thats just my opinion, many other people liked it.

I agree. It gives you a lot of in battle suggestions early on and really teaches you how the whole game works. Plus, it's pretty linear, so you don't have to spend a lot of time searching for your next task. I believe you can wrap it up in anywhere from 40-100+ hours, depending on if you want to search for ultimate weapon pieces and do side quests.

If you want to follow just the storyline, which still makes it a great game, I'd say around 40 hours or so.

The Xenosaga series is actually pretty nice and simple. Your attacks are mapped onto the cotroller buttons so stringing them together is simple and they look awsome when you do them. There are alot of cinamas and the story is great.

I would recomend FFX as well. Good game and pretty simple to start with. Also consider Front Mission 4. More of an RTS, but there are certain things that make it an RPG.

try final fantasy 6 or the kingdom hearts series . KH series is really good and easy to get into and learn the mechanics of the game . It's perfect for a beginner . now final fantasy 6 is probaly going to be hard to find but if you can it's one of the most balanced rpg's ever not to mention it's probaly the best in the series ( i think so ) .

no , FFX isn't an easy RPG start, the game isn't hard but not easy for a beginner!

KH will make u hate RPGs (get it later) so....

Dark Cloud 2 is an awesome action RPG , not hard at all

I didn't play much classic RPG, yet!

Dragon Quest VIII is pretty user-friendly. It's turn based. Humorous. Has good documentation on GameFAQs too. Oh, and it's fun. :P

A great beginner game is Final Fantasy IX. The gameplay is extremely simple and the difficulty is near the easy side of the spectrum. I also recommend any Wild ARMS game, because they will introduce to you many skills needed for tougher RPGs (such as solving puzzles and mastering standard turn-based operations). And if none of these choices suits you, Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana is a very easy and entertaining RPG to get started on.

unfortunately turn basedRPG's are neither easy nor hard, in order to beat them you have to work at it and get used tothe way they workotherwise you would be defeated in almost every battle, the best way to get used to turn based RPG'sis to pick a game and play it, you should start with any turn basedRPG"teaches" you the commands and work from that and stick with it, cause they all get more and more difficultthe farther you progress in them this iv'e learned from experience as iv'e been playing themsince i was 6 and im19 now , ever since the first final fantasy game came out, at first it was difficult to win any battles but as i got used to RPG's the battle and games got easier and nowi finish most of them in 2-3 weeks with school and work, the only way to playRPG's is through your own abilities asking other player which games are good turn based games for beginners is useless as each has their own taste in games, and their are no short turn based RPG's, everyone of them that i have come across has needed at least 50 hours to beat a few need alot time than that, but good luck and don't give upjust cause the game is difficult, if you keep trying then eventually you will be able to beat it.
