bleah I definitely prefer the soundtracks to the Shin Megami Tensei games, Dawn of Mana, Growlanser: Heritage of War, and the music for the opening of Rogue Galaxy over FF9's.
I just recently listened to alot of the FFIX soundtrack and I do like it alot. There are alot of variety in the tracks. I also agree with garter_windwoo that Shin Megami Tensei titles, especially Nocturne, have great soundtracks.
Chrono Cross. Get the soundtrack if you can. You WON'T be disappointed. This is like the only game where I stopped playing just to listen to the music.
This isn't even an RPG but the I think the only thing that was done well in the FF VII Dirge of Cerberus game was the music. Also, FFX had good music that fit the situations (usually).

AMEN. That is definately my favorite video game soundtrack. I don't think there is a single song on there that I don't like. Very moving songs indeed. I still remember the first time I watched the opening cutscene for that game... Wow.
sry guys buy Chrono Cross owns all. like one of the posts mentioned its one of the few games if not the only game where u just leave it on the world map to listen to the music...even my mom commented on how good the music was! xenogears was great as well...cud never forget that game...
i'd go for final fantasy x!to zanarkand is one of the most memorable piano music i have ever heard.all the tracks in the soundtrack are well-arranged and touching.
FF7, Shin megami tensei: Noctourn, Kingdom Hearts had some good soundtracks. The first Baten Kaitos had some pretty decent music as well. Never played Crono Cross so can't comment. How is the game itself? I'm looking to get as many PS1 rpgs as i can, and I stumbled upon that one so was wondering.
The wackiest soundtrack for me would have to go to Katamari Damacy. Catchy songs, but had the weirdest lyrics
I liked the music for all the final fantasy games, Suikoden games, kingdom hearts, and Dragon Quest. I have songs from each on my I-pod I listen to at work.

I felt very moved because of "Lost Fragmnets". It has the guitar parts of Scars Of Time (THE BEST INTRO MUSIC EVER!) and the rest a very melancholy Cello to carry the music.

Chrono Cross is an extremely cool game. Its kinda unfortunate it didn't get the respect it deserved. Some hated the Battle system which I found really cool and smart while others complained about story or lack of character development.
Give it a try. I can't say whether you will like it but this game is awesome, and I think everyone should play it. Oh yeah, about PS1 rpgs, get FF IX and Grandia. Excellent games!

I have played all the RPGs since FFVII by Square and I would say that I like Chrono Cross sound Track by Yasunori Mitsuda and Since the rest of the sound tracks are by Nobuo so I think FFIX had the best sound track because it, like the rest of the game was a throw back to the old RPGs with a princess in distress and so on and so forth. :D
The world music for Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross are almost the same and I agree that they're very touching!But I like the Chrono Trigger version one better.
