Most of the games that are of the RPG variety have some kind of feel for what's happening today (or the older ones in its time) i guess it can give a feel you can do something about it (which you really can at a smaler scale)

Not often we come across these but Xenogears and Xenosaga did that for me (philosophy and religion). There is also the original Valkyrie Profile which got me into mythology and Okami which is also loosely based on mythology
i agree lastTru, to me FF VII was the same way (yes i forgot to add this to my orignal statement) i looked at what they were up against in FF VII and it reminded me so much of the fears we all had about nuclear power. The subsequent Series after VII dealt with other issues. Someone put (i thought it was here) a statement the newer RPGs are getting too predictable and ithink that it is what we come to expect but i still it pertains to issues we deal with on a regular basis
