1st off....i think your insane
in my opinon this game is completely original and amazing at that, ive never had a boss fight nearly as intense as fightign a colossus......
First off, the developers of this game primarily wanted to create a game wherein you go up against overwhelming odds in a David vs. Goliath sort of way. To say that aspect was done successfully is an understatement. However, some other elements were slightly ignored and thus were executed somewhat poorly but the aggregate of the shortcomings found within the game are not enough to ruin the overall experience.
Sure the story was not that amazing and wasn't filled w/ many twists and turns, but having all that wasn't really needed either. The inconsistent framerate and "dated" graphics was due to the aging PS2 hardware. The camera control however is one thing I really didn't like and controlling it to get an optimal angle on things was at times a "mini-game" in itself, but to a skilled gamer it perhaps was not so much a challenge but more of a chore. I really wished they had done more with it. One of the shoulder buttons makes you focus on the colossus but is not much use since how hard can it be to spot a colossus??? Aiming the bow and arrow also IMO could have been implented in a better way. I easily adapted to the clunky camera controls, but I would rather have camera controls with a "learning curve" of about a second instead of several seconds to a minute.
Overall, I would give the game a rating way above passing grade but not quite legendary. Noteworthy but not legendary.
Thank you Axel, for seing what a load of crock this dumb game is.2deluxe
I guess people don't understand what it means to have different tastes and every game that you don't like, must be bad. This coming from someone who gave God of War a 1, it's hard to believe you are the least bit an objective individual.
As far as the OP is concerned, I found much of it to be epic. No, it's not a Zelda, but every high rated game does not need to be.
Personally I like the game but feel that it is overrated. It's a collection of fun boss battles and little more. Great landscape and all that, sure, but a landscape with minimal interaction. Hearing all of the praise heaped on it does get a bit sickening, but I try to not let that ruin the good times I had playing it.
I can see someone hating it though, it makes perfect sense.
I bought this game for 20 bucks at gamestop thinking that it would be a great buy since it got raving scores like 9.7 on ign. I was so excited to play it and wow, was it a dissapointment. Not only is it the worst 20 bucks i have ever spent but it is easily the worst game i have ever played on any system. The story is weak, frusterating controls, repititive battles, tons of graphical issues, and geez was it boring. Apparently this reviewers have not played Zelda. Who cares if the game has "art?" Why did you guys like this game?Axel_rocks14
It sounds like someone hasn't even played the game yet.
The controls are intuitive and responsive. The graphics are pushing the PS2 to places it hasn't been. The story is one of the most moving on the PS2, anyone who actually played the game would see that.
Though calling it 'art' may be overrating it, I do think SoTC is a great game. I enjoy playing a game for once that doesn't feel exactly likefour other games I already own.
I have to agree here. Colossus realy wasn't such a great game. I got all my hype up over all the good reviews and good scores, but it definately didn't deliver to my expectations. To say its a **** game would be stupid, and to say its an amazing game is also equaly stupid.
It is a fun game, if what your looking for is an adventure/puzzle game, where its just boss after boss and all you need to do is figure out how to beat it. The graphics are great, landscapes and colossus alike are both breathtaking, and the actual way of taking them down is inovvative and thought out. But when it comes down to it, graphics and some combat gameplay isn't much in the way of rating an amazing game.
The controlls ARE plonkey and the camera is a bit hard to control especialy when your doing your best to try and dodge a building sized fist and an inch means life or death. The story itself isn't that amazing or interesting, and tbh I just feel the whole game is a copy+paste of ico, with the interesting gameplay and story taken out. Ok so basicaly you just go around killing huge things. Personaly i wouldn't rate this above a 6/10 and it would probably get a 5.5 or 5.7 from me. But then again it does just come down to personaly opinion and preferences. I don't like the game, and I think its the most overrated game for me, but that doesn't mean its true.
The story really doesn't kick in,till the very end.... so unless you've played it till the end you really can't comment on the story.
It would have been a much better game if they did something with all thereal estate... Only sidequests it hadwas killing lizards and collecting fruit.
I bought the game and had a alot of fun with it. After a while, beating all those Collossi became addicting. I couldn't help but try and figure out how to beat the next one. After I beat the game I definitley felt proud.
Im proud to say I have it in my collection. I actually stopped playing it when I tried beating it on either the hard or hardest difficulty, I can't quite remember.
lol
I go out for about 3 months and now the "how good is SotC" has turned into "SotC is crap".
As I ALWAYS said in those topics, SotC is a great game but is not a must buy. The greatest defect is has is that it is waaaaaay too short and once you've learned the way to take down the Colossi, it's a walk in the park even on hard mode.
to the TC: please don't come here saying that the game is crap just because it's not like Zelda. You are obviously one Zelda fanboy and guess what?? the latest Zelda related game sux ass so much, that I'm actually happy of not having a Wii console. So pleasestop thinking Zelda rules.
yeh greengoblin zelad does suck the wii one was real bad and even oot of time was bad a peice of **** nobody play a zelda games ther ****delta4062
Say what you want about the new Zelda, but Ocarina of Time was awesome.
That was hardly the best boss fights in gaming. They all die in more or less the same way, with the unfortunate part being that sometimes you have to look at a faq just to see how to get on top of them (because it is not well planned enough to be figured out without)
They took the best part out of ico which was the environmental puzzles, no more of those around. Instead a giant world with nothing to do in it. They had so much world space that they could have set up a bunch of activities/ minigames/ horse races/ collectible items. But they failed to give anything to do. At least you paid 20$ for it instead of 40$ like I did.
Sotc is a masterpiece, the story is epic and biblical in nature. This game does what very, very few games manage to do: create a sense of moral ambiguity. Wander is essentially on a selfish quest to revive his deceased love, however most of the colossi are not agressive and die in a very humanlike manner, in fact Wander dies in a similar manner. It is eventually revealed to you that he was tricked into reviving the devil. If you cant appreciate the storyline in this game and the effort gone into making it then you are blind to good storytelling, go read a book. Not that you'd notice one when you saw it.thekodaman

lakitel
Kudos to you, mister. I really enjoyed the game, I consider it to be a superb one, but some people here should take an example from lakitel. Only because a game didn't live up to its hype or you didn't completely like it, doesn't mean it sucks or that it's a 1/10. Please let's not allow this place to become another imdb where people vote 1 for every movie they don't like and 10 for every movie they enjoy.
On SotC topicness, I guess it's just a minimalistic game. You gotta enjoy the simplicity of it, the subtleties. Not every game is for everyone. D:
its a game that brings "Atmosphere first" theme again
like old times -we were playing games for their atmosphere even they were so simple- SotC gives amazing feeling for a new game.
even some people dont like SotC, its Masterpiece and you can see the majority's thought is good about it.
