Xenosaga and Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter are quite short. BoF can be completed around the 10 hour mark, Xenosaga in 25 or so. I should mention that this includes getting pretty much everything there is in the game. There is no point saying a game can be completed in 20 hours if you did a speed run and ignored everything else in it.
Well, the .hack// games are pretty short. About 15 hours each. At least the first 4, not sure about the G.U. series. You can beat Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter in under 10 hours, but the game is extremely hard and most likely you'll have to SOL Restart/Restore a couple of times (basically a New Game+ for either the whole game or just the last save point). Musashi Samurai Legend is about 10 hours long. Of course, these are all "normal" play times. They include watching the cutscenes and even getting a little side tracked. When you start talking speedrun almost every RPG can be completed in under 10 hours.
Personally, I don't think a 20-30 hour RPG is short. Most RPGs I've played were that long, and in the SNES ages almost every RPG was that long. The only reason why today RPGs are longer is because of cutscenes.
wow I must've just enjoyed the dot hack games alot more in the end i spent anywhere from 30-40 hours on each installment lvling up and other such things. Radiata is pretty short but only if you skip all the sidequests to get all 132 characters. I haven't beaten Grandia III yet so I can't really say on that one. As for my vote Digital Devil Saga I've almost got it beat and I think I've just now reached 20 housr on the file. Kind of sad for such a good SMT game.
