Wow... didn't know there were still gamers WITHOUT a PS2. At the very least, I would get the PS2. Given the fall lineup for the PS3 though, I would actually suggest you go all the way with the PS3... it's an awesome system. Even if you don't have an hdtv yet, you're going to want one within the next year or so with all of the great games coming........ then again, if you've missed out on the majority of the PS2 titles then you have enough games to catch up on until the price does drop on the PS3.
However, IF YOU DO already have an hdtv... the only option you should be considering is the PS3. Upscaled PS2 games, PS3 games, and blu rays are all too awesome settle for less if you already have the necessary t.v. to fully enjoy the system.
Yeah I held off buying a PS2 until last Monday..I don't regret it at all. Then again, I didn't spend a dime as it was a birthday present for me.
I got the silver slim one btw.
Yes, get one. There are a ton of good games for it, and it's cheap. However, as haze_blaze suggested, if you have enough money, go for the PS3. You can play all the major PS2 games on it, and be able to play all the newly released PS3 games (a couple upcoming games are Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Warhawk). You will probably want to be able to play Heavenly Sword (especially since you want to play GoW and GoW2), MGS4, and Haze as well.WARRZONE

I have it preordered at Gamestop. The demo was amazing. The game comes out this month!
The PS3 is a great investment and will have some great games (God of war 3 perhaps), i would say go with the PS3 choice.bigmick07
It has yet to be seen if the PS3 is a great investment, and if you're looking to just play a few chioce games, there is NO reason to buy a $600 machine when you can get the ps2 for $100 or less many places refurbished. Right now there are no MUST HAVE games for the PS3, so just go with the PS2, it's a great console, it has a massive library and by this point most of the games are cheap as can be.
Too many people are like "the ps3 is GOING to get good games", so if that's the case I'm GOING to get it when it HAS those games and we see if they're any good and won't be released on other consoles that cost less.
I only have a cube , and I wanna play God of war 1 and 2 , I was thinking about buying a ps3 but i would buy it one its cheaper , so Should i buy a PS2 just to play GOW 1 and 2 , (and some GTA , GT , MGS, DMC too) or should I just buy the god of war games and keep them till I buy a PS3 ??blackhorsemen
Save the $129.99, theres no sense in getting a PS2 now when you can just put that towardsa PS3

Yeah, but what's the point of doing that? He can spend $129.99 right now for an excellent console with the biggest and best games library and start some quality gaming, or he can save up and spend $600 for a console that hasn't proven itself yet and has a tiny library of games. PS2 seems like the smart way to go if you ask me.
I recommend you wait until the PS3 goes down to a resonable price ($700 is a bit expensive). Buy the PS2 as it has an awsome game lineup, then when Sony gets it's act together on the PS3, buy it.
I think you should if you want so bad to play GOW. And you still have a lot a good games to play when you done with it. And is quite cheap around the u.s.
PS3 seems to be a great system, new look quite nice an beautiful, but price not too affordable for many people outhere (including me who´s here in brazil, an it´s price is a quarter above double the price you guys pay in the united states). And so far had a nice amount of games to play.
But think about it, you could also consider buying a Wii, then later buy a PS3 and be able to play newest games out, andhave a wide range of possibilites to revisit great and memorable games.
But in the end it all depends on you. So
