Silent Hill 2 was a really good game since it wasn't a horror game but rather a psychological thriller. Just make sure you get the greatest hits version, its got more content than the black label one.
Creepy atmosphere yes, but it doesn't go out of its way to scare you. I suppose I could see some people getting scared of it, but it really depends how easily you scare.
Make sure to get the Greatest Hits edition, as it includes an additional stand-alone chapter (it's short, but good none the less), and some other goodies (like cleaned up graphics).........
One of my fav games of all time. It has great atmosphere, great story, great music, emotional, and its as scary as hell. It's just a brillant game and defiantly worth playing.

I 2nd this. The game is a true masterpiece and is definitely the best survival horror game ever made. Go get it now!
