So I'm finally buying a PS2...

Well, I'm a Nintendo guy, but since prices have come down I'm gonna buy a PS2! Woot. Anyway, I have a list of games I want to get, but all of them together is a bit expensive so I was hoping some of you ps2 veterans could help me pick out the best ones. Anyway, my current list is:

- Final Fantasy XII
- Okami
- Ico
- Kingdom Hearts 1
- God of War
- Devil May Cry 3
- Final Fantasy X

I really want to get it down to 4 games, and preferably with either Final Fantasy or Okami (not both) as they're more expensive. So you can suggest to me more accurately, I mainly play RPG and Action-Adventure Genres. My favourite games are Zelda Games, Tales of Symphonia, Dreamfall, Final Fantasy Tacticts, Paper Mario, Warcraft and Oblivion. So I would really appreciate any help!

 my personal opinion is: FFXII, God of War, Devil May Cry and FFX :)

For me you should get FFXll, Kingdom Hearst 1, God Of War and FFX they pretty good games to get and great collection to have as well.

Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3

Worth playing for the story ALONE! :D

okami is just great, but they are completely different games, genre, and stuff. for example, ffxii is a amazing rpg, but okami is the second best action game imo  (god of war first obviously haha).

Hi TC, I made a similar post a few weeks ago (including Nintendo gamer and stuff) and I'm now the proud owner of a PS2. I still have to buy/receive quite some games though (e.g. KH). ICO was actually my first game. Just one word of advice, if you buy ICO lower your expectations a little. If you played adventures like the Zelda games and games like Dreamfall, you might get disappointed by ICO.

I really enjoyed ICO though, it just isn't exactly what people make it out to be (very short as well). Just play it like you haven't heard anything about it! I made a little review today, so you could check that out... (although I didn't write it for an audience).

i prefer okami over ffXII though,reason being its exceptionally amazing graphics coupled with unique gameplay...if u are a fan of japanese myths,then this would be the right games for you,no violence,amazing storyline,nice graphics, and captivating soundtrack...it really deserves to be th best game ever...and you should pick up God of War too,but its a totally different genre from okami,gore,violence n stuffsssit should have been better,if not for its brief storyline...well,guess thats what the compensation is for having graphic that maximize the potential of PS2...devil may cry 3 should be in your wish list as well,since it has tons of replaying value..earning orbs,styles,and stuffs...its just great to see dante mastering diff styles,and overall its a very cool game!!as for the last game i would recommend,it would probably be the FFX,since i heard that it is also a great game....I have yet to play it personally,mainly due to its lengthy storyline and gameplay,and it has too much secret to be discovered and that gets to my nerve too sometimes....just leave FFXII for sometime later,i own that game but seriously,i prefer okami over FFXII...

Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear solid 3: snake eater, Gran Turismo 4, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XII, Kingdom Hearts II, Ace Combat 4. == Some games you shold not miss... 

Out of your list I would suggest getting Final Fantasy X, God of War and Kingdom Hearts 1. The reason being is that you should always play the first version of the games before the next version. So like when you beat Final Fantasy X then get Final Fantasy X-2 if you really enjoyed it or not. X-2 isn't all that great but it carries on a story for you.

Kingdom Hearts is the same way, by keeping the story going always buy #1 before #2 this makes it worth more money and more enjoyable to you.

God of War is more of an action game and you can do what you want with it but it's a change for you and is a greatest hit so pretty cheap to get and fun.

I highly suggest buying these games used because you can get them really cheap and they work just as good. If you go to EB games online and use a coupon you could probably get some really good deals. I think you waited for a really good time to buy a PS2 because now you can enjoy a lot of games for 1/4 of the price that most people paid when they first came out.

Wow, it actually hurts to try to narrow that list down to 4. I'll go against the grain here, but I'd cross FF XII off first -- it's newer, still expensive as you noted, will be very easy to find for ages, and in my opinion is different enough not to be the first PS2 FF game or RPG you want to start with. I'd keep FFX on there though... even if we... have to cross off Kingdom Hearts 1 for the moment, to do it.*wince*

Down to 5, argh. Alright... Okami stays, no question. Ico is really short, but it stays, if you can still find it. So it's either God of War or DMC 3. And that's painfully tough. I'm tempted to say get DMC3 (or better yet the DMC anniversary pack) first, because it's fantastic but older, a little rougher around the edges, and not as flashy and splashy as GoW. But DMC is also really hard for a lot of players, and GoW is arguably a better first choice for the mainstream action-adventure spot. So GoW first, then graduate to DMC later? Yeah, that works.

So... Ico, FFX, God of War, and Okami. Whew. Good variety there, lots of gameplay, although it does hurt to have only 1 RPG. There really isn't a game on that list you don't want to get later though, and I will not complicate the problem further by pointing out a bunch of other PS2 games that you'd likely absolutely love given your gaming tastes. That'd be the worst thing I could do here, since we're trying to narrow things down. But suffice it to say, you have a lot to look forward to. :)

yeah Id say best off skipping dmc3 and waiting for ff12 to come down in price.

so get ico, ffx, kh1, and okami.
