Thank you, this is why I refuse to buy anything else now that I have Disgaea, the differences between them are even less pronounced than Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 and 08. Sure playing one of them is good but why play the same thing for $50 a pop?
Disgaea was good but I enjoyed Growlanser Generations from this generation. Seems there were more good SRPGs on the PS1 though, Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre, Vandal Hearts and a few others.
it wasn't THAT bad...but it could have been better. Hard to find game too since it's by Atlus.
anyways, Disgaea 2 best SRPG so far.

Stella Deus is not that bad, its even worse... Horrible VA, easily the most annoying characters in any game for me (how I loathe you Lumena). Very lacking in strategy, a rather fundamental part of SRPGs as far as I know, all you need is to be a level higher than the enemy, if you are one below you are slaughtered. The only battle of worth is the last battle because the boss' level depends on yours, all others are preset.
Phantom Brave and Makai Kingdom have different stories and different mechanics than disgaea. PB has fusion and MK has no item improvement system and only cares about your level and lets you use vehichles and buildings in battle. I think their funky mechanics take away from them though and they dont end up being as fun as Disgaea 1-2 which do everything perfectly. Front Mission is the only other tactical game i would own. Suikoden is nice but units can die. Tactics ogre was so long ago i cant even remember it except that it let you fight against your friends army.
I don't really prefer the way SRPG's are moving steadily towards level grind exclusivity anymore. I have much more fun with games like Suikoden Tactics or Fire Emblem than I do with Disgaea or La Pucelle. Plus, I like unique characters in my army and not just people I create, but that's just preference.
I didn't like disgaea as much as I'd hope too. The altus SRPGS are actualy very poor. I haven't found a good PS2 SRPG.
The best SRPG ever is Final Fantasy tactics, and the first one I played were the original shining force I and II on the sega, both of those games are superior to Disgaea as well.
Though by all means Disgaea isn't horrible. And Phantom brave is the same game, as well as the other ALTUS SRPGS... just different stores.. /yawn.
why do you guys call these games Strategy Role Playing Games? If anything just call them turn based Strategy games because in my opinion they don't have much related to an rpg game. FF tactics is just one battle scenario after another and everything except the battles are automated.
I guess my definition of an rpg involves exploring towns, areas, interacting with NPCsand not just about levelling up character stats.
FFT (PSX), Disgaea 2 (PS2), Stella Deus (PS2) (good game by the way), Disgaea 1 (PS2), Spectral Souls (PSP) Suikoden Tactics (PS2) (lots of holes but addictive in the end)

So a SRPG is bad because of the VA and characters, not the gameplay? *back on topic* Why hasn't anyone mentioned Ogre Battle? That game was original (a combination RTS/turn based RPG) and fun, from little I remember/played.
Nothing special.Is is just that the videos were so cool.It was nice to see some differences(making rooms,attacking towns,stealing,gaining levels instantly).But i like it because it is just another srpg.
