I think that the most difficult game on PS2 i have ever played are Resident Evil Code Veronica X (blieve me it is difficult if you only have two bullets remaining for a boss fight), DMC 3,Silent Hill 3. Honesty i haven't played any games besides these which are extremely difficult. expecially on PS2. But some games can be very difficult if played on higest difficulty setting. Liek God of War or Resident Evil 4 but i don't think so that there are games on PS2 which are extremey difficlt.

Then you must be terrible at the game. You should never have a bullet shortage in that game. Believe me, I've mastered the Dreamcast version (where it only has the standard difficulty).
Yet all those examples pale in comparrison to a good shooter like gradius Vhot114
Your getting there, but Gradius V is considered to be the easiest in the Gradius line. IIDX, In the groove, and Pump It Up: Exceed are the hardest PS2 games out there.
What is up with people? I don't know what it is, but DMC3 was easy for me. Hard but very easy. I must have MaD sKiLlz!!! Lol. The most hardest game I have EVER played has got to be.... I don't know. Im not sure..... Resident Evil 4 was extremly hard for me at first, but now I can beat every boss with a knife.
Though it's debatable as to whether one could call an RPG 'difficult' (over-levelling for the patient is always an option), I'd say that if you tried to beat it 'normally', SMT: Nocturne is damned brutal on Hard difficulty.
Can't escape from ANY fights without special items, enemy AI is improved (at least I found so), everything does double damage to your party, store items cost 3 times as much (which makes getting new abilities a nightmare as cash was tight enough in the regular mode), instant-death spells have a greater chance to affect characters (Game Over if this happens to your main dude, by the way).....unless you spent some serious time in a past play-through and started a New Game+, it was freaking ridiculous. I still love the game though :P
And yeah, God Hand was tough as nails too. Lvl. DIE, anyone?
Capcom Classics Collection (Pretty much everything on it, but especially the Ghosts 'n Goblins series.) Jak II (It's been a while since I've played it, but when I first played it in 2003, it was by far the hardest game I had ever played.) Valkyrie Profile 2 (Probably the hardest RPG on the PS2, because you can't powerlevel your way through bosses.)
I've beaten DMC3 on DMD mode, but I don't feel it should be on the list. I've only played the SE version on gold mode, though. Actually, I've had more trouble with RE4 and GoW on normal, than I had on DMC3 on any mode. I'm not good with RE4's slow keep-your-calm gameplay, and GoW... meh, combat isn't deep enough if you ask me.

True, the Gradius series are probably the hardest games I've played. I do pretty well in vertical shmups, but I'm pretty sure I haven't beaten one level in any horizontal shmup (Gradius-like that is, I've beaten Progear, but that has vertical shmup gameplay).
DMC 3 on the very hardest difficulty, other than that it's not so hard once you get better at it. Now, Alien Hominid, that's really hard. digi_matrix
You should try the flash game version of Alien Hominid. It's A LOT harder than any of the modes on the console versions. That might be just because I don't like playing with the arrow keys and A S, though.
I own over 100 ps2 games and played way over that. The game that was difficult that was on the ps2 that sticks on my mind was Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter(PS2). Cant think of anymore that was only on the ps2, right now.
And to the person who said he heard that Shinobi was hard..that game wasn't. It was just that the last boss was a bit of a challenge. Nightshade was much harder than Shinobi.

I was trying to say the flash demo, not the console versions where you can get a car, use bombs, power-ups, and much faster action.

Yeah i know but he did ask for PS2 titles, contra shattered soldier can be pretty hard aswell but thats 99% memorisation and 1% actual skill/reflexes

More or less. It is a game that demands precision and skill. The Hurricane Pack and Black versions are also expressions of Itagaki wanting the game to be much harder.
The question really is, why aren't there that many hard games on the PS2 as there are on other platforms? I can only remember DMC 3 and that Maximo game as hard games, but nothing else.
well it's pretty frustrating because you have to replay levels ALOT but god hand is in my opinion harder what i mean is trying to get 100% on stuntman. i havent played godhand so no comment
Mines would have to be DMC 3, Viewtiful Joe, & Siren.  Siren was a scary & awesome game but replaying levels over just to get to the next storyline is annoying so I just quit on it.
Shinobi is the hardest game I've ever played and I'm not talking PS2 only, but in my whole life... never finished the game in the 3rd difficulty and boy I tried!! :x
I haven't really played that many games that I would consider difficult. I am supposed to be getting the first DMC soon, though, so we'll see...
Although I have to say, RE4 on Pro is pretty dang hard. Either that, or I just suck. Could be either one. And both Guitar Hero games can get pretty insane on some songs...Â
